It was Sony that gave Nintendo the 'kiddy' label when the Playstation came out. Thanks to the great dispute with third-parties, most of them moved to the Playstation, including most of the ones who would make a balls-out shooter or other type of 'hardcore' game. And since Nintendo happened not to specialize in this area, Sony took the opportunity to spin it and make themselves the 'cool' console for teenagers and adults.
OT: Yeah, I think this game looks great--throwing people into specially-placed walls of spikes FTW!
