Sony isn't producing many BC PS3, mainly because all their profits come mainly from the PS2. If Sony made all the PS3's BC then buying a PS2 would be pointless.
They can't let the PS2 die yet, but that means PS2 is stealing sales from the PS3. Sony is in a very bad position now, Kaz sounded like neither MS or Nintendo can do anything about the PS3 (He's very wrong, MS has stolen a lot of exclusives and Nintendo has probably won the gen so far).
