Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Super Mario Galaxy bombs in Japan - only sells 130,000 on day 1

i hope this game will have legs

Dude, that 137k is for day one, why do you suppose that sales for day 2-7 of one week will have lesser sales? It doesn't work that way. Sales start waning over weeks not over days.

@PS4:

You're forgetting that a large up of people preordered that game, so they didn't need to go in on the first day to buy the game, they can wait until the weekend

c'mon. Thats like someone saying "The highly anticipated Wii game releases in Japan today and I have it preordered, but i'll wait for the weekend."

I'll take the case!!!

600k in its first week? Where do you get that from? Day 1 sales will account for about half, maybe a bit less, of week 1 sales. That puts it at more like 300k, which for a MARIO game on WII isn't that good.

There is probably a list of 100 games which sold more than 300,000 in the first week, so it really isn't very good for Japan.

Interesting sales for the first day.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I don't think PS4 is flaming, since 130k is fairly underwhelming. Although it's probably too early to call this a bomb, we might just hyped the expected sales too much.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

So mario galaxy is going to outsell all the ps3 games on its first week :O amazing.

Wii install base: 3.72milj.

PS3 install base: 1.27milj.

And it is main game in mario series. I don't say it bombed but it didn't sell as much i thought.

If it really did 130k on day 1, that's pretty bad. However, Japan has /never/ purchased Mario anywhere near the quantities that the US has.

You guys are crazy, if any other game only sold 130k on the first day, you would say that the game hasn't done very well. But since it's Mario and it did that much (or little) on the first day, it is fine. I distinctly remember when CC: FFVII didn't do that great First day vs. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, people were talking about how bad it did vs. the expectations and now people in this thread are saying this source is unbelievable... I just can't believe that now that this game didn't do a million units or 750 or 500 thousand in the first day, the source is unbelievable. And now people are saying that it will still sell a million in the first week. The first day sales are generally the best of the week, they don't rise. And whoever said that people didn't buy it because they pre-ordered it needs to QFT... That was my rant, but in all honesty, I do believe the game will sell well but the first day sales are not that great, I am just surprised that a game with this much hype did not get that great of a first day sale.
