Do you think we'll see a $99 360 soon?

If MS were to drop the price of the X-Box 360 Arcade down to $99 what would be your view on this?

360 sales would skyrocket no doubt but you have to ask yourself some questions:

Is the 360 that cheap to produce? Would this be a sign that the 360's lifecyle could be entering it's final stretch?

I have an Arcade myself, but I don't subsribe to XBL, don't plan on buying a hardrive and buy all of my games used.

For me, it would show 3 things :

- they can do it
- they believe they need it
- they want more marketshare

that is all.

"desesperation" can also be used because the console is already the cheapiest one
but it is obvious MS is not "really" desesperate, they would only want
less revenue now, more hardware sales now, more software sales later !

PS3 slim launching sooner than sony intended to launch it, act of desperation on sonys part?

Theres still a 6.7 million gap, and its gonna take a while to reduce that number by a significant amount.

Now the slim is out the next move is Microsofts.

Thats how it will continue this gen.......... back and forth.

Either way the big winner this gen with regards to HD consoles in Microsoft.

Sony are simply not dominating like they once used to.

I don't think we will see a $99 Xbox 360 Arcade unless Microsoft plans on only bundling Natal with the Elite SKU come next fall. Who knows, maybe that's what they'll do. I'd think to maximize Natal penetration that they'd bundle it with all SKU's which means a $150 Arcade, $250 Elite prices next fall both with Natal bundled.

I must admit I was baffled on why they chose not to Holiday Bundle the arcade model like they had the 2 previous years. Now we know why, cut cost so they can handle these deals. I am sure more of these deals are to come. I wonder what Black Friday will look like. There are still lots of families with a Wii that are planning on an HD console this year.

I don't think he ever said anything about that.  Flamebait, much?  Kowenicki just meant Sony did this to save them from their low sales and from having a major YOY loss for the holidays.

even with Natal I think they will continue to have the arcade model. Lets not forget that there is a market for people who only want to add one piece at a time.
