halo 1 - lots of fun, played it a lot 9/10

halo 2 - bored me halfway through, had no online, never played again, so 5/10

halo 3 - missed the halo 2 online train, so halo 3 online just felt awful after all my cod 4 time, 5/10 if that, boooorrriiinnngggg single player, and i just dont like the guns or the jumping for online

never played halo wars

halo odst - now if this was halo 3, i woulda liked it, 8/10 much improved sp, cool new online modes make the flaty shooting more bearable

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I'll only comment on the ones I played. And my scores are based on my opinion regarding Halo as a console shooter. If I compared it to PC shooters the score would be lower.

Halo:CE 9/10 It did a good job bringing a PC shooter to a console (Halo was supposed to be for Mac and PC only) Having one stick to control movement and one stick to control your view brought it as close to having a keyboard and mouse as possible. And it was a blast to play co-op and splitscreen with friends. I would have given it a 10/10, but let's face it...it had pretty crappy level design in single-player

Halo 2 7/10 In my opinion it didn't really bring much new to the table. The story sucked, the weapons were unbalanced...it felt like some new maps for Halo 1. I know this is a little harsh, but when I compare it to other games I've enjoyed and their vastly improved sequels (i.e. Half-Life to Half-Life 2 or Uncharted to Uncharted 2) it feels like they didn't spend anytime improving the mechanics of the game.

Actually Halo was meant to be a third-person shooter {After it was originally mean to be an RTS} for the Mac and PC. Also, yeah the indoor levels are horrible and repetitive but the outdoor levels are massive and extremely well designed.

I also disagree with you on Halo 2's story, I thought it was great and had much more indepth look at the Covenant's side of the story. It's only fault is that the ending was rushed. But yeah your right, the weapon were freaking unbalanced in Halo 2.

However, Half-Life 2 wasn't vastly improved over Half-Life 1. It's an excellent title but it lacked two things the original had which were the excellent enemy A.I. {Half-Life 2 had poor A.I.} and  rock solid gunplay {Half-Life 2 had drab gunplay}.

Call of Duty 4's multiplayer is horrible compared to Halo 3 because it's horribly unbalanced and grenades are extremely overpowered, martydom is cheap beyond redemption.

H1: 8.7
H2: 7
H3: 8.5

@valvefan

horrible compared to halo 3?

how is that? in the way you cant pick your game mode? in the way that you get 1 xp for a win and 1 for a loss in the boringest level up ever? if someone quits a game no one can rejoin, making it unfair but if you quit you lose xp? the lame alien guns and multiple necessary headshots? the jumping and floaty poor controlling vehicles?

cod 4 demolishes halo, you get whatever mode you want INSTANTLY. you get MUCH more realistic gameplay. you get an amazing and intricate character design and level up system.

also grenades overpowered? you ever see a grenade explode?

So Call of Duty 4's multiplayer is superior due to the fact it's "realistic"? What the flying f*#@ does that have to do with the actual core gameplay? Realism has nothing to do with core game design advantages because a realistic game can be poorly designed where as a arcadey type game can be well designed or vice versa. It depends how the game is designed not whether is realistic or not.

Call of Duty 4's multiplayer is hideously shallow and it's not even remotely realistic, weapons have little or no recoil make it easy to aim and land headshots, perks give a high superior advantage instead of strategic advantages. Match making system is horrible, it just randomly picks anyone which sometime gives players an unbalanced position where a team of lower ranked players go up against a team of high ranked players other than to scan to match players with equal ranks like in Halo 3.

Grenades in Call of Duty 4 explode like an atomic bomb, they can kill you in a fluke and in miles radius. They constantly spammed throught out the multiplayer everytime.

Halo 3's vehicles do not handle poorly, almost everyone online handle them well which shows that you don't know who to handle vehicles properly. The weapons in Halo are balanced, where in Call of Duty 4 weapons are either overpowered or underpowered. Shotguns are especially useless.

Halo Combat Evolved = 9.5 (A true innovation in Console shooters)
Halo 2 = 7 (I didn't like a few of the stages much, but solid multi-player and FPS engine)
Halo 3 = 9.2 (A really solid game)
Halo Wars = 8.7 (A very solid console RTS)
Halo 3 ODST = 9 (Took a old engine in a new direction and it worked really good)

@valve

my point is that in halo 3 you can wait all this time to join a game mode you don't even want, then people quit and its unfair, you can't quit, and you waste more time

cod 4 you piock up and youre shooting

also matchmaking is for noobs man, ive never cared who was in my match

how is the online shallow with all the perks and challenges? no strategy? you have to know how to use the perks, in order to use strategy

you either just don't like cod 4, or you are no good at cod 4
