The first game I bought on release date... one of the best games I played on my life.

Why do we have to be over 30? I'm 19, and I damn well remember that feeling!

I don't think many of us will get that feeling again until they find a way to literaly put us into the game, Star Trek-style.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

from the first moment i entered hyrule field to the final battle with ganon, it was all magical experience that no game has yet to reach for me, i remember the first time i beat ganon, my whole family gathered to witness the awesomeness.

i was not even hyped for OOT, i was hyped for turok 2 and ignoring zelda, but after beating turok 2 in about a week or two i traded it for zelda OOT and the rest as they say is history.

32 and still haven't beaten Turok 2  =(  playing on tough difficulty and the lack of savepoint/mid areas got me to give up at some point.  great game though.  someday I'll have to see if my 64 memory carts still work and pick it back up.

as far as zelda, ocarina was an incredible gaming experience back then and still now I think...and other than the metroid primes...something that hasnt been duplicated for me since.

though EverQuest did seduce me out of 9 years of my life

There was no N64 in South Africa. Only PS and almost no Saturn. As soon as GC came out I sold my PS2... Not long after that: WIND WAKER. I payed through my teeth for it but played for 1 solid week. I remember being enchanted like never before.

Of course Occarina came with the Wind Waker pack, so I played and was very impressed. Was kind of hard to fully appreciate I guess seing as it was already old at that time.

Nice thread.

I'm 25. I remember getting the gold cartridge that November. Best game up to that point since Super Mario Bros. 3 and there's never even been a game that has even come close to it's epicness....only WindWaker has come close only there was too much sailing.

Oh yeah seems like a good place to post this......Vote For Link!

I'm only 26, but I remember getting my gold cartridge the day it came out and having my mind blown by the gigantic world, horse-riding, music, and the battle system with the new/fresh/amazing Z-targeting system that's still used in most 3rd-person adventure games to this day, including stuff like GTA.

But I still think Link's Awakening and Twilight Princess were better!

Link's Awakening is the most underrated Zelda. My personal favorite is A Link to the Past.

22, and that "magical" feeling is what I got from LttP.

Actually, I felt that way abou A Link to the Past. I mean the starting sequence was just breathtaking at the time.

Yeah, seriously.  That game had a way better intro than Ocarina.  After A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening's truly epic intros, Ocarina's whole starting section seemed like a huge step backwards.  Now I'm a kid in a small elf forest village?  PSfhtsss, let me start directly in a rescue mission or in a shipwreck.

Exactly, and then the dark passageway where you encounter your dad (uncle?) and he......I cant go on. Too emotional and dark.

Totally this

I remember when I played oot the first time. I remember the feeling perfectly. "Did I really waste 2 hours for this game*". Good thing that I got almost all my money back the next day. :)

* I would use another word there but...
