Forums - Sales Discussion - European Users: How well is PS3 selling in Europe?

for switzerland, i can't tell you any numbers of pre-orders, but i will be in the city (basel) tomorrow afternoon and then i can take a look at how well ps3 sells. just to have a little comparison: when wii launched, i was also in the city on friday, but wii was launched in switzerland on thursday already. anyways, when i was at my local retailer (media markt) at around four o'clock, i just saw the last four wiis beeing bought. that means, a console that sells out on day one in switzerland really is a big thing. but i think ps3 will do well tomorrow, at least in switzerland. as someone stated, ps is synonymous with videogaming here and today there was an article about the ps3 launch in every paper i saw. normally, videogaming doesn't make it to the papers here.

@ ioi http://tweakers.net/nieuws/46728/?highlight=44.000 44K pre-ordered within the Benelux, 50k units should be available. BTW, Ireland should have more than 20,000 units available for launch.

PS3 vs 360 sales

no source but 12k out of 14k in sweden according to a friend of mine...who had read it somewhere... EDIT: Seems to be a little bit different info here. One news papper is stating that all ps3 units is pre booked. http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/noje/story/0,2789,1028618,00.html the game site I stated before is saying that their is still units availible. Two big electronic stores (elgiganten and siba) here in sweden is pushing a lot of advertisments for the launch. So honestly Sweden seems to be a big unknown for the moment.

I personally don't expect a lot from the European market until sony gets its stuff in gear with Home and whatnot....this launch will be so-so. Why would it be any different in the EU than elsewhere? Not that i'm being pessimistic and turning in my sony fanboy badges but they just need to get their act together... Also, not to contradict myself, but opening up the european markets will be terrific for sony. More games sold, more money, more nerdy ho's for game developers, etc.

ioi said: I think 300k for the UK is a little optimistic - at launch anyway. Maybe within the first week or so. 44k preorders for Benelux - how many other major countries do you know of in Europe? My figures are only estimates and maybe a tad low in some cases (+/- 10-15k I'd say) but should give a good idea of the expected breakdown. But definitely - any early reports about with numbers for various countries then please post them... we will get some data later on but the early report will give us a good idea of % sell through and allocations in each region
I dont know ,but I live in Spain and I have asked the retailers about the PS3 numbers lately and they have told me that they are receiving enorumous amounts of consoles .When the announcement of the 1 million for PAL was made they later received some allocation numbers ,since then they have received some updates and each time the update increased their allocation by a lot of units .I have heard of this also in UK .The rumours about 1.3-1.4 million for Pal territory may be true .

Wow I didn't think we had European users from this many countries... Personally, I am expecting sales somewhat similar to 360. I base this on price, which is a high factor in Europe compared to America and Canada except when compared to countries such as Ireland which are very wealthy...

Here in the uk i think its going to be a very good day for sony . I think it may well sell about 65% of consoles in 24hrs which would be almost 200k . The number of consoles will be well in excess of 1m brought in by end of weekend to whole of Europe . The 1m estimate was way long ago and i expect its been well surpassed the few independent retailers im friendly with keep telling me the amounts promised has grown weekly . It will be by far the most successful launch whether or not Sony maintain that depends on games arriving soon and home being a success . Though little big planet may just be the joker they pull out the hat . Mega buzz that has created amongst my friends even though i doubt it will be my type of game lol .
