Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 5 Reasons Why FF: Crystal Chronicles > Main Series

It's hard to get terribly excited about anything Square-Enix makes anymore much ales the train wreck that has become the Final Fantasies main series.

FF13 is a desperate and shallow attempt to salvage the declining franchise by recycling as many popular concepts from past successes as possible and spreading the franchise out as thin as possible through spin-offs and companion games in hopes that one will hit the mark.

It's a futile strategy and one that has severely weakened the Final Fantasy Brand Name's Power. In an industry where JRPGs are struggling more and more I don't see Square-Enix gaining much headway in either pursuit.

Who wrote this list? It's absolutely awful. A game being multiplatform doesn't somehow make it worse. Pathetic.

I never said it did. But now people are arguing over which version is better right. Oh and look now FF Versus XIII is becoming more anticipated than XIII do you know why?

Last I checked, everything I've seen indicates that Final Fantasy 13 is far more anticipated by way more people. Where are you getting your ideas?

You are bringing up many many points that have nothing at all to do with this thread. The only one that does is the bolded, and that is stretching it, because you have no evidence, as of yet, to support that claim.

So a couple of Sony fanboys on the internet go against all other evidence that Final Fantasy 13 is more anticipated? We've even had surveys on this site showing that Final Fantasy 13 is far more anticipated among the members. You're in a losing argument.

1. When I said exclusive I meant to Nintendo. FF XIII is now shared between both the 360 and PS3

2. As for the story, of cousre it doesn't make CC have a good story, but that's not where I was headed. You know where I was going with that.

3. How is it not innovative? The whole style of the game is completely different from the main series.

When I said it gives players a game I was referring to how it focuses more on playing a game rather than watching a half hour long cutscene (I exaggerated for emphasis). FF XIII is a game that people including me wants. And yeah, the main series is more popular than CC, sales number prove that, but what sales numbers don't prove is if the game is better or not. That come's down to our own opinion.

Final Fantasy main series titles revamp the battle system in nearly every iteration. Truly changing from each game to the next game. Sure, there is always some form of turn based action, but Crystal Chronicles is not innovative. It may in the sense that it's action RPG with Final Fantasy slapped on it, but that would be all.

And why are you less excited for FF13? It looks fantastic.

You know, you still haven't explained to me how CC is not innovative. And I hope to be a future PS3 owner and I like PS3 because of it's exclusives. And of course I'll be getting 13. But, is it really true that they had to downgrade the graphics of the PS3 version because that woulld be really sucky (It still looks good though). I don't know I just having this feeling that I will have fun with TCB more.

Better, explain to be how the gameplay of Crystal Chronicles is innovative in itself rather than just an action game with FF slapped on.

You never gave a single reason why it innovates. Certainly it isn't multiplayer, as that's been done before in the main series.

You haven't explained why it is? I love all the crystal chronicle games, but up until now there wasn't much of anything we haven't seen before. Most of it was just a refined multiplayer aspect. Crystal Bearers looks like it WILL be innovative with the combat focusing on control of enemies, but none of us have played the game, and we have yet to see how great it is implemented. I disagree with Outlawauron though, the Final Fantasy(main series) has very little innovation either. Yes the system changes and refines each illiteration, but that doesn't mean it is innovative. Far from it actually. It basically takes what is good and makes it better, which is fine by me. Why does every game have to be innovative? To be honest, most of the time innovation fails. This is due to the developers not having one common goal in mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, but if it isn't done right a game actually can get worst.
