Pachter: Wii price cut no later than November

http://www.videogamer.com/news/pachter_wii_price_cut_no_later_than_november.html

Price has to drop to under $200.

In his 'August 2009 Video Game Sales Preview' Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said he believes Nintendo must cut the price of its Wii console to under $200 no later than November 2009 if the platform holder intends to meet its sales forecast.

"We do not think that Nintendo’s Wii hardware forecast is achievable without a price cut, and as long as the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, we expect continued year-over-year declines for that console’s sales," said Pachter.

He added: "… the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, which should continue to negatively impact that console’s sales until the company decides to cut price below $200, which we expect no later than November."

Regarding hardware sales in the US for the month of August, Pachter estimates 240,000 for the Wii, 205,000 for the Xbox 360 and 160,000 for the PS3. However, he does predict substantial growth for PS3 sales in September following the launch of the PS3 Slim and the introduction of a lower price point.

i think November would be a perfect time for a price cut.

lol, he's going to be proved definitevely wrong.

Nintendo will at least wait until this holiday is over to see if WSR/WF+/NSMBWii had any impact, since Wii games have long legs. And if those three together fail to increase hardware, nothing will and price cuts won't save it.

I can't outright say he's wrong on this one. Nintendo is very secretive and you never know what they are going to do.

I give it a 50:50 chance of happening

Price cuts on the Wii and 360 won't have as drastic an affect that the PS3 one had.

I've never heard someone complain about Wii being too expensive and say "I'm waiting for it to drop in price"

I meant, if those three games won't improve sales then neither will a price cut. Of course it will remain profitable, just not at the level it could be if they hadn't stumbled last year.

It's too soon after the sony and MS cuts. It would be lost in the gravity of those two, more anticipated ones. Nintendo has control of this generation and they'll cut the price only when they're sure they have the spotlight for themselves.

i think

Even with the price cut by the PS3, within 4 weeks Wii will be back on top without a doubt, probably sooner, but 4 weeks at the latest, not to mention they make mad profits at its current price drop, and as the source pointed out, still have a good chance of hitting their expected sales mark, so the chance of a Wii price drop is virtually zero. No more than likely we'll se a black Wii and possibly the release of some bundle with NSMB, but no price drop, and no HD Wii (just to shoot down Pachter's other idea)

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

My thoughts exactly.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
