Forums - Sony Discussion - Help me out - will a PS3 Slim really change the game?

I see a lot of folks excited about the slim version of the PS3. I don't get it - why are people so amped by it? Will it really put Microsoft in check and take some of the Wii's steam? How good did the PS1 and PS2 slims sell compared to the fatty versions?

I just think folks will be disappointed if it doesn't change the tide.

What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

Slim=Pricecut=More Affordable=Huge sales=Less Doubts=Thumbs Up

All depends on the price and the advertising.

I think more people see it just as a way of making Sony stay competitive not like it will suddenly zoom past the 360 just no longer be down every week

I think the speculated reduced pricing will have a much bigger effect than the actual slimming of the console.

I'm getting one regardless

PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes

PS2 Slim was enough to Sony double their current console sales four years into the console's lifetime, while both GC and XB had already sold like 80% of their lifetime numbers.

I know that's far from a great answer but still could give us some rough guidelines as how things will, or could possibly turn out. Also remember PS3 most likely will get a long-awaited pricecut.

I've been wanting to buy a new ps3 for about 3 months now. - that said, a price cut is bound to come so consumers are waiting until the price does fall so that they don't lose 100 dollars or so. I don't care if it is slim, fat, or shaped like a toilet seat- the main thing people really want is the price cut. Slim = less to manufacture = lower price. If it is priced for say 300 (or 200 according to some rumors that it will have a locked blu-ray feature) it instantly shaves 25 to 50% of sony's rather massive price tag.

I think people are thinking slim = pricecut.

I would rather have the fat with a pricecut then the rumored image slim with a pricecut. The pricecut will really give the PS3 chance to boost sales to catch up and maybe exceed xbox 360 sales w/o/w

What sully said.

I think people are more interested in a price cut then a PSlim3

As for me just like sully i would have much prefered the current PS3 being cheaper but it costs to much to make

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

It will be able to occupy a smaller space.
Does that mean it will sell more.
Will it add more features, if not I don't think it will have much of an impact
Now a 100 dollar price cut
