Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Virtual Console games are too expensive . . .

I played Super Metroid for the first time on VC. It would have been a bargain at twice the price.

Sure, not every VC game is worth the price if admission, so don't buy those games. But a lot of VC games are worth every penny, and I relish the chance to buy them legally and the convenience of playing them on a modern console.

it would be a lot easier to judge their value if they had a demo or trial version.

you can pretty easily find out which are horrible online...but the "decent" to "great" ones wont appeal to everyone and the easiest way to determine that is by trying them out. people would be less hesitant if they felt they knew what they were buying.

The prices are great deals. These are complete full length retail games that are just as good as today's games for 10-20% the price. If anything WiiWare has the prices too high. Often crappy, short minigames without the polish of a retail game, for a higher price than The Legend of Zelda? No thanks.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

Sorry I've had a gripe about the prices for Virtual Console games. They charge us $5 for Nintendo games, $8 for Super Nintendo games, and a whopping $10 for N64 games. Now if you think about it some of these old games cost more than Wii Ware games themselves, which im more willing to pay for because those are brand new games. And this goes for the games for the other consoles too like Genesis and NeoGeo.

I believe they should be Nintendo - $2, SNES - $4 N64 - $5 or $6

I know Nintendo is a business and I have VC games but I think Nintendo needs to reconsider their prices. We should make a petition. Your thoughts.

You need to do a better job explaining why you think VC games are overpriced, all you did was say old games should be cheap.

I don't really understand this logic, an old game is new to someone who hasn't played it.  These games almost all used to cost $50 new and many were made to be fun for a long time.  Some of these games are more worth $50 now then some of the games coming out now.

Why is it so much to you?  I can't see how anyone would have a problem with VC prices but be perfectly fine with wiiware prices and current new release retail titles.  VC is just like wiiware and retail, some games are worth it and some aren't.  Actually I'd have to say more VC games are worth it, because you can justify paying $8 to play an 8 hour game but I don't know how you can justify paying $60 for an 8 hour game.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Although the price does limit the number of games I buy, I think the overall price is generally fair ...

Many of the virtual console games are still very enjoyable high quality gaming experiences that offer 10 to 40 hours of gameplay for $5 to $10, and when you look at it on a per-hour basis most of these games cost about $0.50 for every hour of gameplay.

This is generally right. I got the original Legend of Zelda for five dollars and played through it the right way - drawing my own map and whatnot - and even given how simplistic the game was, it was easily an experience worth twenty dollars or more.

Show me somewhere else you can get Super Mario RPG for eight freaking dollars.

That's why I say it's BS to claim the games cost generally less. That's only true with some games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

The prices are very affordable.

Personally, they aren't generally worth it to me, but I'll scavenge through garage sales, flea makets, pawn shops, and anything else thank might yield great deals, Dragon Warrior 4 for 17 cents, don't mind if I do, Mario RPG for a quater, SOLD! 70 genesis games all different for 25 dollars,I'll give you 20, (all these are real finds by the way) etc, but not everyone has time, luck, desire and availability to do I do so I understand the price, the vc is convenient and easily manageable, real games might not be (try keeping track of 500 + nes games, it is no easy task)
plus they do an okay job of filtering garbage (though I don't know how china warrior slipped through)
personally I have a few Tg-16 vc games because they are bargains and tg16 games are tough as nails to find and many really pricey (Bonk 3 in particular, easy a 100 dollar game...though I've found 3 in the wild) at 6 dollars they are completely worth the price to me, and some 64 games are because they really benefit from the filtering and stabilized frame rate the vc offers (mario kart 64 is night and day between the original and on the vc)

But personally I'd like to see atari jaguar games hit the vc, and by jaguar games I mean the few good ones and by that I mean Iron Soldier 2
IT is all a matter of perspective, somebody that just want to play a little super c, the vc is way easier than finding an nes, getting a copy of super c, then dealing the with the nes poor fidelity, contrawise I like original carts and will gladly deal with all that jazz

1. I think they are overpriced because they are old. Whenever a product in a market gets older, they start to depreciate in value. Dont mind that people are selling sealed copies with a "Brand New" next to it for $80 or &763.95 or whatever they're old. I'm sorry i admit i failed to mention that in my original post.

2. Which brings me back to my original point about NEW and OLD games. I used this example once before. WiiWare and Virtual Console games are both sold in the same online market place. It's like walking into a Gamestop and seeing Gamecube games being sold for 49.99 the same price as Wii games. Now that wouldnt be right. Not only that some of these old games cost more than Wii Ware games themselves. Its poorly setup (the VC prices I mean).

3. sguy78, yes I know they're affordable nobody ever said anything about their affordability.
