Forums - Gaming Discussion - SEGA To Be Sold To Either Samsung, Panasonic, or Apple?

Sega has been operating in debt for over a decade. I doubt they're worried.

Alright. Reading over this, let's hit a few points.

The Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive are part of Sega. They are internal studios. First party. They are indistinguishable from Sega proper. You cannot brush them off. Their development studios are Sega's. Platinum games are developed by Platinum Games and publish by Sega. Sports Interactive games are developed by Sega and published by Sega. What I seem to be reading is the same as saying AM-2 is not part of Sega, or Sonic Team is not part of Sega. An acquired studio is no different from one built ground up once its acquired, except in terms of tenure.

Sega has produced several games that define genres. To just brush aside things like AfterBurner, Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Crazy Taxi, The House of the Dead, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon, Shining Force, Skies of Arcadia and countless others is silly.

Admittedly, they aren't what they once were. However, they are much better than they once were. The only two internal teams still making garbage are Sonic Team and Secret Level.

I completely disagree with the OP.. sadly for SEGA , its sammy that has become the weak arm of the business in the last 2 yrs. For all those who think sega isnt worth their salt need i mention

Yakuza
Valkyria Chronicles
virtua fighter
house of the dead
Total war
football manager
phantasy star
sonic( sure the games arent THAT good but they sell well)
condemned

and lots more.. It would be stupid for sammy to offload sega now. Theyr finally maturing into a good 3rd party dev.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

This article is quite wrong it seems to me.

I don't know enough about SEGA's financial situation, but others have already pointed out that we can't just believe the article and that it could as well be SAMMY that is in trouble. Not to forget that a huge seller is about to release for SEGA in Mario & Sonic, so they should be fine.

However, the article is written with SEGA as a hardware manufacturer in mind. This is why it says that SEGA can't concur with Nintendo, Sony and MS financially (Why should they?) and that a manufacturer of electronical devices should buy them. It would be completely stupid for either Panasonic, Samsung or even Apple to buy SEGA unless they want to release a console.

This article actually is a SEGA fanboys wet dream. No need to discuss it any further.
