Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I've plugged my Wii on a HDTV!

My Wii is hooked to small 720p HD TV (which was obviously a cheap TV) and everything looks fine, even without component cables.

put ur HDTV in game mode, get component cable for wii and switch in settings to 16:9, 480p

Improvements are caused by people who complain

i have my Wii on 480p with a component cable, and it looks pretty. Not anywhere near as awesome as my 360, but Wii isn't suppose to be a HD beauty

yeah see if your TV has a game mode. 2 of mine do the only one that doesnt is my 2 year old 37" Phillips but i havnt needed it. Hopefully yours has a game mode

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

HD is divisive and it sucks.

I have one and I'm happy with it, it's okay. But we have it mainly because another family member wanted one, but I tell you, nobody in the end really gave two shits about HD. And that's true across the board. It's mostly people wanting to justify their purchase, and boys that are obsessed with visuals, and details.

I won't deny you that if you get it right, it looks crisper, but that's it. That's all it has going, and it's no colors shift either, it's a little redundant. Which to this day I watch some black and white films and many people think they're great. HD is like, completely artificially overhyped. There was never really a need for it, which might explain why it's being rammed to hard down peopl's throats.

It would have been better if they waited a little longer, until they could get a real new standard that mattered, before they tried to make a shift.

@Azelover: Sounds like someone's HDTV sucks. Because I notice a huge difference in color, speed, brightness, and it's nowhere near blurry.

Either check your settings on your TV or buy a new one. HDTV makes a huge difference in performance. If your watching say, ESPN, and you change it to the HD version of the channel OMG it looks beautiful. I don't think your watching the correct channels for your TV not every channel supports HD, and that means it won't look good on a HD channel. Other than that all local channels, weather channels, and movie channels come in HD.

Currently enjoying: Monster Hunter Tri.

Just go to amazon and get some component cables. I bought the Madcatz ones that have a 3-way splitter to connect to the PS3, Xbox360, and Wii simultaneously. The picture looks great on my 47" Olevia HDTV. If you get that Madcatz model, just remember to flip the switch, otherwise you'll get a B&W image.

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

Just buy one off of Monoprice. Seriously, for 6 dollars, you can't go wrong. I've never had a problem with monoprice.

Like others said, use component cables, and make sure to set your Wii to 480p and 16:9 widescreen at the system settings (also set your TV to 16:9 full screen).

If it still looks bad and has lag, you bought a crappy TV.

buy an upscaler. thats what i did.

now i can play ps2, and wii before i sold in HD.

still not HD but makes it more bearable
