Forums - Sony Discussion - No Mandatory Install For Uncharted 2

Naughty Dogg, Guerrilla games and Inzomniac put most other PS3 Devs to shame IMO.

Guerrilla Games:

Killzone2 - No install. Huge online component. The game runs and looks amazingly.

Slant6:

Socom Confrontation - 3GB+ NON-Optional install. That shit has horrible lag. Even the menu's feel like they're lagging. And it doesn't look near as good as KZ2 or Uncharted.

Explain your opinion then. How has Naughty Dog proven that they have the talent to make the best games? Name the games, or any specific instance in a game where they have proven that they could make something as good as Secret of Mana, FFVII, OOT, LTTP, Half-Life?

Where are these epic games that prove their omnipotence in gaming, because I must have missed them.

Surely you don't mean Rachet and Clank?

What is your favorite Naughty Dog game?

As far as your assertion that ND is one of the industries most respected developers, they certainly are. They have a great work force and great people. They are very much respected for putting out great content. However, nobody thinks their games are the best games they've every played. Even you, a huge PS3 and ND fan, seem to be reluctant to name one of their games as "contender for best game ever."

Are any of them even close to contention for that presigious title?

Wouldn't you feel ashamed for listing any of their games in that hallowed hall?

Another thing, longevity, to be "the best developer ever" you can't be a relatively new company. IMO, you have to prove yourself over a significant period of time, relative to competition. Would you disagree?

Why am I being framed as the evil one here? Just because I won't accept the claims that ND is as good as Valve, without some sort of explination, that no one seems willing or capable to give?

Can you at least explain your opinion, with a real life example.

Dude, this thread was about TECH. This was about installs on PS3. People are saying Naught Dogg are great because not only no one can remember them making a bad game but because a game by them with such visuals and scale demonstrated at E3 has no install, while games like DMC4 and RE5 [I've beaten both multiple times] are on a smaller scale with comparible or weaker visuals are forcing gamers to free-up 5GB of HDD.

What's the point of talking about ND making exclusives??? As of 2001 they were SONY 1st PARTY Devs.... you expect a 360 release anytime soon???

And you're talking about how good their games are? That's pretty off topic... I'll say this for the heck of it though:

Remove the Golden Sun Series from Nintendo's Portfolio, once you do that the Jak&Daxter Series alone is > Every Game Nintendo's ever made to me.

That's my opinion. And just like most of what you've been posting in this thread, it's 100% subjective.

Zen, did you really just go on a multi-post tirade about how your opinion was correct and everyone else's was wrong, yet you didn't even know what studio you were talking about?

I would say I'm shocked, but I'm really not.

It fits with your usual posting style.  You often have a pre-conceived opinion about something and defend this position to the death, despite sometimes having little actual knowledge of the subject at hand.

And he also tries to seem apathetic while doing it, and falls flat on his face

Not very surprising, they are by far the best coders on the PlayStation. Most of the good looking PS3 exclusives have had Naughty Dog help. And of course they have a long track record of making great games, in the PS1 era, they were the most successful US developer, and nearly all their games have been between 85 and 90, they aren't the very best developer ever but they are extremely good

I think they have fixed the lag in Socom. Ive recently purchased it and yet to expierience anything. I agree though, 3 GB install is awful.

That's because like all these download/retail titles, they are designed to run off the hard drive, so the whole game is just installed on your harddrive and then the disc is only needed to verify you own the game, it is a complete install, because that is the way the game was designed

Oh, and GG had to have a lot of help from Naughty Dog to get Killzone 2 to look that good

Personally i'd be greatfull for full games install like x360 has instead. Especially when you can put 320gb hdd for few bucks into ps3.

nah those are probably Polyphony Digital Tourist Trophy and Gran Turismo 4 are the only PS2 games that can be displayed in HD (1080i) and that's amazing for a system that only has 32 mb of RAM, also God of War 2 had a massive scale and really pushed the hardware to the MAX.

With no loading times anyway, and PS3 being pretty much silent, why does it matter? (in this case)
