Why would Halo Wars put of the FPS hardcore fanbase?

Maybe you was confused by the fact that HW was an RTS and didn't bother to do any research or look at the box when you bought it but I would think you're in the minority.

People, well most people realise game series can have spin-offs that are of a different genre and they don't affect the sales of the main franchise. Mario-Mario spin-offs.

I predict over 2mil probably around 2.5 for America and 4.5mil for the world up to the week NPD ends for September.

Read my post closer. I was not confused by Halo Wars. However, there is a saying to never underestimate the power of human stupidity. Since it was the first full spinoff of Halo, I would not be surprised if some fans of Halo 3 bought Wars expecting the same type of action, based solely on the Halo name. We here know that to not be the case, but not everyone who buys games does as much research. (Or, really, any for that matter.) Those who felt burnt by Halo Wars are either going to do research on ODST to make their decision, or skip it entirely, waiting for that little 4 to appear next to Halo.

I agree conmpletely about the human stupidity. Big Brother is currently on in the UK so I'm getting my fill of it but you did say the hardcore FPS crowd might be put off.

They are the ones who will know which is FPS and which isn't. It sounded like the typical PS fanboy argument that HW would only sell in big numbers because people wanted a Halo FPS or because it had Halo in the name and would be disappointed when they found out it wasn't which is nonsense and although probably did happen but only to a very small number.

Ironically those people are now saying a Halo FPS with Halo in the title wont sell because it's not Halo 4.

What next?

Really, all the research it would take would be them looking at the boxart and seeing "Bungie" on the cover. I don't think there's that many dumb people out there that didn't know Halo Wars was an RTS.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

NPD September ends October 3...

so over then right? i say 3,451,567

Obviously under.

Over 1m in NPD for sure. Maybe pushing 2m. And should do Halo 1 or Gears numbers for lifetime sales.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Having all the Halo MP maps on disc will save you around 2GB, important if you still have a 20gb drive.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

If they stuck to their original $39.99 price tag, I'd say over easily. But since M$ is insisting on releasing it at full price, I'd say under. It'll be lucky if it tops 2 mil in September.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Under 3.1 million,

I'm guessing 2.5 millionish

It's hard to say... but I will say this... notice that everyone is pushing their big games to next year... between ODST and MW2 everyone will be fighting for scraps at best

It will be under 3.1 for September NPD. It's only an expansion and Modern Warfare 2 is coming out (with Modern Warfare 1 being new vs Halo 3 in '07 and it still matched in in sales). Modern Warfare 2 is one of the biggest hypetrains since Halo 3, so it will hurt ODST sales.

It's gonna be a huge hit.
