Forums - Nintendo Discussion - boo! Gamespot reviews Dragon Blade Wrath Of fire, gives it a 4

As usual the trash anything wii related. Ign was tough on it, but fair giving it I think a 5.7. Personally having beaten it now I would give it more like a 6.5 or so. It has it's flaws but it's a hella lot of fun for a while, and I still anticipate playing it more even after having beaten it. I think they could do a much better job with the sequal (the ending points not so subtley to a sequal).

Gamespot as usual is just stupid, and apparently suck at videogames and reviewing them. They fault the controls for being very innacurate (they aren't), but then say that all you have to do is wag the remote like a dogs tail and you can beat the game (you'll get your ass kicked). Then they complain that it's too hard and that they died repeatadly and had to do some stages four or more times (you get five lives per level, and I never used all 5 on any level). Graphics, fine fault them they deserve it, but they as usual just suck at the game, complain about the waggle, and then trash it. Much like the controls of metroid that they couldn't get the hang of and yet somehow made the game too easy at the same time. Ugh, I can't stand gamespot, I dunno why I ever go there.

edit:Well at least the gamers like it. The average reader score is 8.9 at IGN and the reader reviews at gamefaqs are positive too. Sometimes people can over look flaws to see something better inside.

Boo!

Well, not everybody likes a game the same way.

I thought GS was harsh on Lair, but that had their points and I support it.

They are not biased against anything really. They have given harsh reviews for games on all systems.

This is why Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess got GOTY on most websites and in most magazines right? GameSpot gave Zelda an 8.85 or something when everyone else was giving it nearly perfect scores (even the so-called "jaded" reviewers on 1UP and in EGM).

They should just give everything a 10. This would make everyone happy....

there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot

I really don't see the problem with them giving a game a crappy score. Especially when you're comparing it to another source that gave it a not quite as crappy score. I'm glad that you like it, but lots of things can be enjoyable without actually being very good.

And this game looks like a very basic and bland beat'em up.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

So, they say you can beat the game by waggling the Wiimote like a dog's tail, but then it magically becomes insanely difficult and that they died too much?

GameSpot just lost another point of credibility for me. Then again, their credibility points are already in the negatives, not like it'll make much of a difference ;).

 I think you misunderstood them.

I believe they had a hard time keeping their dog wagging its tail. Now, that is insanely difficult.

The problem isn't the score, a 4.0, 5.7, 6.5, they're all bad and if GS had valid reasons clearly stated in the review (as with Lair) then I would agree with the score. The problem is yet again as cadence points out their review score and review don't match up. Perhaps the game is frustratingly difficult because they are just wildly waggling about?

The review also reveals why GS should either hire someone who plays a Wii more than 1 hour a week or quit reviewing Wii games. Excite Truck losing a point because the controls were different is one thing since it was the first game with those controls but by this point the controls being different shouldn't be an issue. That they are should be considered very damning.

I don't recall which Wiik in Review it was but the IGN Nintendo editors talked about that issue saying that at recent video game events they were surprised that reviewers from other sites/magazines were have difficult just navigating the menus much less playing the games. As Wii reviewers who play a Wii more than an hour a week they had no trouble whatsoever.

People I really don't think a huge game portal, accepting thousands if not millions of visitors daily would compromise their credibility by assigning reviews on any console (maybe except N-gage) on unexperienced hands.
