Free to play on PS3? aw fuck yeah! that takes care of a big obstacle for me.

F2P equals micro transactions.  Want new armor?  That'll be $.99.  Want a new sword?  $2.99 please.  Want to buy a mount?  $4.99 please.

Either way an MMO is costly, and in this scenario it can get even more costly because the amounts you pay are smaller, but add up quickly and you can lose track of how much you spent.

Also, this is kind of like Home.  Free to get in, but customizing anything costs money.

I'm pretty sure S-E will charge you for new equipment you could easily get playing single player...

I'm guessing someone has never heard of Guild Wars.....

Well Guild wars isn't an MMORPG, it's an ORPG. When you do quests with your party there's no one else there.

@nightsurge

but there's a choice which is the best thing.

So... after buying the game the only thing I have to pay is 5GB of HDD space????

If the minute this gets full confirmation I'm SOLD!

Does not F2P MMOs mean that they make their money on micro-transactions?
(i.e., for upgrades above a certain level, clothes, weapons, etc.).

Mike from Morgantown

Yep. That's how FreeRealms works. FreeRealms will be free to download and pay but certain optional content on the game you have to pay for. So you can expect them to flood it with nice content. Advetising is also quite possible.

Also, don't expect any FREE add-ons or expansion packs.

HOME works like this, microtransactions AND advertising.

Not when there are facts that back up an opinion.  There is NOTHING factual about your original post that backs up you personal accessment that F2P will be a detremental route for FFXIV...

"ROFLMAO...yeah, it definitely going to be exclusive then...Sony likes to lose money, so I see another failure in the works. F2P doesn't work...even with micro-transactions. Sony keeps ponying up more requirements on it's servers, and believe me...like I saw when they were giving away ps3 in early 2007...this is going to get them in a hole that they can't dig out of."

Any facts to back up your statemnet that cannot be counter argued by the actual facts that have already been presented?

Free to play = This will be as big as WoW.

11M subscribers? Not a chance in hell. If you actually believe what you just wrote, I can only suppose you've either (1) never played WoW or (2) grossly overestimate how popular the Final Fantasy franchise is.

Sorry, but i don't like micro-transactions...I play alot of MMOs, infact I'm in Huxley beta now, but I saw the trailer from Free Realms...and if that is what FF14 is going to be like...count me out from even trying the beta.

When they say "play like a regular FF", they're referring to FF12 (and I guess 13 if it's the same) right? (Because FF12 have a few MMO leanings).

I don't think people would be happy allowing others to issue commands for their person if they were referring to classic FF.

I'll definitely give this a go if it's Free to play, but I could only see S-E doing this on the condition that the original release will have a really small world and they'll continue to roll out new parts of the world 5x more frequently then WoW or they'll do an oblivion and get you to pay for extra equipment etc. They have to make money afterall.
