There is a chance. I mean we never thought Sega was gonna step down, but they did.

That's actually a good point. I don't think anybody thought Sega would drop out but they had many years of difficulty before they pulled out of the console market right? I'm really just asking because I'm not 100% sure. lol. I know the dreamcast and the saturn had some difficulties if I remember correctly. Of course I was raised on Nintendo so I didn't know much about sega except that I loved my gamegear more then my gameboy. lol

Well everything between the Genesis and the Dreamcast was a flop for Sega. At one point Sega had 3 or 4 active game systems on the market. The the PS2 came along and killed off the Dreamcast, which had an awesome first 1 and a half. That was when the economy was pretty strong BTW.

If Sony does atempt the PS4 it better start making them money ASAP.

It will not be the last. They'll be more strategic than this gen.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Why would it?

They could even leave price at 399$ and continue selling PS3 with PROFIT.

They already sold 23 mln. PS3, they could sell another 10 mln. EVERY year, thnx to games like GT5, GoW3, FFXIII, FFXIIIv, HR, U2, TLG, FFXIV, Agent and etc.

That would make 50 mln. PS3 by the end of 2012 in WORST case.

BUT, they still will lower price to 199/299$ after some time and that will lead to 100+ mln. sales. =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.

No, Sony can deal with those loses, at least for now.

Yup, just like how Nintendo gave up after the N64 and Gamecube got whooped

Hmmm... maybe. If it's only up to the suits at Sony, then the answer is no. However, if the shareholders are looking to shed dead weight from the company, they'll see the losses posted by SCE, and want to kill it off to see a return on their investment (or withdraw entirely, which could ruin Sony if enough do so). I'll put it at 70/30 unlikely, but if the PS4 suffers the same fate, then it'll be nearly 100% certain dead.
