no, there has been rumors about a new MMO from Square for a LONG while.

I'm going to say this and this only. You guys can argue how popular it will be, and weather it will move consoles. That's fine, but lets be honest here. If Square had come out on MS's stage monday and announced that this game was gonna be on the 360, all you XBOX fanboys and Sony haters would be making a huge amount of noise over it. Don't say you wouldn't because I know damn well you would. Some of you were going ape over a MGS game that Stars Raiden for god sake. Sony could have announced an exclusive Halo for, and you would downplay it. As a whole the number of new 3rd party exclusives was a good showing for Sony and you all know it. Give credit where credit was due and move on.

Not gonna move consoles, its on PC, where most MMOs are played. If this was ps3 only, it would be something interesting. Still not like a true mainline FF, but interesting. But, the majority playing will be on pc.

I will prolly try this when it comes out on pc, be fun to play right after launch.

versus is a spin-off so it doesnt affect a thing. Remember Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 came out after FFXII.

It could for the people without PC hardware understanding to built or money to buy a PC that can handle it.

And I have no idea what the most popular MMO in Japan is but the Japanese do love PC games more than consoles so I wouldn't be shocked at it having good sales.

No it's not but it was surprising and welcome right up to the point they mentioned online. Read the Sony presentation thread and see what even many Sony fans thoughts were after they realised it was a MMO. Had it been on 360 many would have called it huge, I personally would have called it like it is, a MMO on a platform that will never suit it. Please bear in mind that my opinion of any MMO game is hopelessly biased in a negative way as I hate the very essence of gameplay they entail.

The MGS announcement was big news not only as it was the last real 3rd party exclusive franchise to fall for Sony but also Kojima himself went up on stage to announce it during the Microsoft presentation. The fact Kojima made a personal appearance is perhaps more important than the game itself being announced, he wouldn't have shown up if he was forced to make the game by his paymasters.

its going to be on pc as well, so no its not exclusive. console exclusive yes, but not exclusive.

oh and did i mention IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME!!!! :D FFXI pwns all mmo's so this is the same team, i cant wait to hear more!

EDIT: are people retarded? this is a ps3/pc game as of now (it will hit 360 sometime unless sony inked a deal) this game will sell just as much as FFXI did which is awesomesauce

I bet this like FFXIII. FFXIII have 3 compilation Main FF, Versus and Agito.
I predict FFXIV online is one of the compilation of Fabula something again. Maybe their will be 4 Main, online, PSP again or DS(BOTH) and Wii title.
My guess is that they don't want to showcase the mainline FFXIV because FFXIII is not yet release in Japan and the whole world. That's my hope for a single player FFXIV so I hope my prediction will be true.
