So what about crackdown 2, splinter cell, left 4 dead 2, were you not impressed with the tech behind Natal at least?

no dude, he just said he thought it was as worse as nintendos conference from last year.....  he's more interested in wii fit

No, I said it was VERY CLOSE to be as bad as Nintendo's last years not that it wasn't.

And what's wrong with wii fit?

Around the Network

best

  • arrogance of turn 10 dev, it was cringeworthy

@ outlawauron, I assume that they have only done that segment? My brother noticed issues with lip syncing, though I can't say I saw much

Regardless, new news on my most anticipated game is a win.

Well I would say that the Spring release date is the best news!

@ bobbuffalo, firstly in what way is Crackdown a GTA clone. I am not a great fan of the game, but I am not going to rubbish it by calling it a GTA clone, it is a super hero game. Even if you don't like Splinter Cell, I don't, you still had to find the game quite impressive, the animations were great and the tecnique of projecting stuff onto the walls looked nice.

So you are not impressed with the way the voice controls worked, or the way that it accurately captured him, even if it did not look that fun?

That conference kicked ass.

BEST: Halos, L4D2, Beatles Rock Band (the video more than the presentation), MGS, FF XIII, Natal, streaming HD, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, Forza, improved functionality

Worst: I was actually a little irked that the Live racer looked like a Looney Toons set than anything Mario Kart related... Also, the lack of anything from Lionhead, Rare, or others dissapointed. Heck, I even expected a teaser for more Gears.

Believing in the PLAYSTATION®3......IS.......S_A_C_R_I_L_E_G_E

I laughed at the part where Epic demo'd that 2D game, fought that boss, and it completely disappeared........and the player's character got stuck in mid-air. That made my day!

best: alan wake - pure awesome.

worst: facebook/twitter. seriously - just put in a web browser already or is big plan to just piecemeal the internet onto the 360 a little bit each year and call it an accomplishment?!?

laughable: natal. the way some 360 fanboys turned from making fun of the wii to championing the natal is just priceless. the only thing the natal will rival is onlive in terms of most laughable announcement of the year.

Its more laughable that the potential of the camera cannot be seen by closed mindedness and by insulting generalisations.

Any Wii owner should be happy that the motion control has inspired future technology and thinking in gaming which is the step MS and possibly Sony is taking. Incidentally, Ubisoft also announced a Wii camera for one of their games.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and I don't like motion controls that much. A swing here, a punch there is fine. Those are simple movements that the game can detect most of the time. Anything more complicated and there is trouble. This is not a problem with a detector. This is a problem with the unpredictability of human movement.

Microsoft is claiming that they have perfected voice recognition, visual recognition, motion control, and gestures in one fell swoop. This is the same company with  a 25-50% console failure rate. They can't even make a decent mouse, and they think they can manufacture the holy grail? It makes sense that they gave no  price, because that would have really put a damper on the buzz they are getting. If Microsoft really believed in this tech so much, it would have been bundled with the next XBOX, but they are not, so they are floating it early.

Write it on a calendar: June 2, 2009 - Project Natal will be a disaster on the order of Daikatana or the Virtual Boy.

For Christ's sake, they had a demo of a virtual boy... made by the biggest exaggerator in the business. Why does anyone believe what Molyneux promises anymore?

well I mean that it was a sandbox game. I don't like that genre. the only game I mildly enjoyed was No more heroes but not that much.

yes it is very impressive but it looks like all those shovelware games on the wii: they try so hard to imitate the big guy that they cross the line. And I agree with malstrom, I won't see it happening and if it does it won't succeed.

This thread is for the purpose of saying which part of Microsoft's conference you thought was the best, and which part was the worst. They showed a lot, so I'm sure everyone's got their own opinion.

Best: Beatles Rock Band. When I heard some of my favorite songs playing alongside that psychadelic trailer, I knew something was magical. And then when Paul and Ringo walked on stage, my inner fanboy exploded. Shame they didn't know what they were talking about, but hey, I'm sure they got paid a lot for doing that.

Worst: Joy Ride. From the second they showed the trailer, the words "MARIO KART RIPOFF" were in my mind. The use of avatars was just shameful.

I wouldn't so sure about that. Games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band bring tons of revenue for music companies, specially now that p2p has killed the cd market. Considering both beatles and both surviving wives will get a crapload of money from game sales and DLC songs, it was like a promotional event for a new disc - musicians don't get paid to attend those, they go on their own because they get a cut from sales.
