Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo killing core gaming?

naznatips said:
What you are saying makes no sense. If "core" games are A and "casual" games are B then Microsoft and Sony make A, Nintendo makes A+B. B does not subtract from A. It is only in addition to A.

Again, Nintendo produces far more software in this industry than its competitors, and thus produces a much wider variety. The existence of B has not in any way reduced the amount, quality, nor attention given to A. Anyone who's actually been playing these Wii games can tell you they are significantly more fleshed out than their predecessors all around.

What fact remains? Show me this fact? All I'm seeing is you repeating the same statement in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary. That's not a fact. Quite the opposite... If you have nothing left to add to the argument you are better off either admitting defeat and saving some self-respect or fleeing in cowardice.

You take this way too seriously as if it means something to me. I am still here and I wont go anywhere. Yes, Nintendo produces tons of games, in fact they are the best at it, but they are actively persuing and quite successfully captured a whole new market which nobody else can reach. The DS started it and now the wii has continued the trend.

But, I won't say anything because i have too much respect for you, but come on. Turn on your Tv, read a news paper, go around the internet. It's pretty obvious where Nintendo focus lies.

Fail thread is fail.

any article referring to killing some genre or something is beyond stupid. the only thing that can kill a genre is that genre not making money.

and if sales are good 1 million and still isn't making money, then the developers making the game for too much damn money is what is killing it if anything.

so its either
1. people quit buying that type of game
2. developers spending too much money making a game for what it sells. (you don't spend 100 million making something that will only bring in 50 million, common sense)

very mature indeed.

Anyway, NAZ, I havent updated my games library in a long time, so it's not incation of the game I own. I would agree with you that DS get tons of support, but the fact remains this Gen Nintendo has not been focusing on their core games. Yes, they can't kill it, but i never said the could  since they don't care as much.

This is the same company who clearly believed Wii music was their big game during the Holidays. They will provide the cores their games, but their mind is on the casuals and this E3 will futrher prove my point.

Non core games on Wii released by Nintendo:

Wii Sports

I think your statement has been rendered invalid.

Seems to be something you need to do.

Everyone??.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Remember when being a gamer meant something?  Nope.  It might be cool that your girlfriend plays as much as you do, and she is doing it in tight shorts or naked, but really?  Yes, that is awesome.  It's actually possible to like games and naked girls at the same time.  They are not mutually exclusive interests.  If your grandma and your 2 year old niece are playing games too, doesn't the appeal of being called a gamer wear off? What appeal?  I like games.  Nobody can change that.

Don't get me wrong, the Wii has some gems, but any real "gamer" has more then just a Wii, if they even have a Wii. Incorrect.  Most gamers only have one console.  This is true every generation.  This generation most people own a Wii, whether hardcore or casual or whatever.  It has the most exclusive controls, so it has the most exclusive games, and even the most exclusive genres.  I have to mention that I did own a Wii at one time (purchased at launch) and enjoyed it for about two weeks.  B...  Zelda was a great game, and there a couple of others on the system (see Mario Galaxy), but how much fun can you actually have with those.  I...  People seem to forget that Twilight Princess was a Game Cube game with motion controls thrown into it.  NGO...

I am tired of living in a world where the simplest games are absolutely murdering sales charts. I take it this guy doesn't remember the appeal of Pac-Man.  That was the most successful game of all time when it came out.  It had ZERO buttons.  Old people and kids and women played it.  It was the Wii Sports of 1980.

My responses in red.

@ Psrock

you are really starting to be annoying with your delusional point of view. Time and time again you are being proved wrong by another forum member but you still keep going at it like a bad broken record that should be put in the trash.

If nintendo is soley focused on being nice to the casuals then tell me this, why did Miyamoto and company make a Zelda, Mario, Punchout!! and many other games this generation and why have they confirmed that they're working on future iterations of these titles already?

And to tell the truth, if Nintendo is about casual players then Sony is about serving immature players that have this trogloditic craving for brutality. that's the conclusion that you might get to when listening to core gamer wishes over what games should be like (especially when listening to God Of War devs, baarrrf).

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.
