Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who actually believes that GT series IS more popular than Halo series.

Since we're on the subject of GT5 Prologue, let me just point out that I think releasing something like that for people to buy is just downright terrible - I've never been a big fan of demos, and it's even worse when you release them, at retail no less, for what, $30?

Also, I honestly think that GT5 Prologue sold so well for two reasons: Partly, well, it's GT. There's no denying that it's a popular franchise. And partly, racing game drought. Does Sony have any traditional racer besides GT5 Prologue, and if so, did it have it at GT5 Prologue's release? And I don't count Motorstorm since that's a terrain racer, and pretty far from the same thing.

If you're going into this expecting GT5 to get sales close to GT4... Well, of course, I can't say for sure, since I can't see the future, but I'm 99,9% certain that you'll be sorely disappointed.

One more thing :

GT is arguably THE best racing franchise.

Halo is NOT considered the best FPS.

There are lots of FPS, and many of them are released on PC and multiplatforms, of course that's a very powerful reason the FPS genre is so strong (multiplayer being the 2nd, imo).

Not many, if ANY RACING game these days can stand far off the shadow of Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo 5 has a lot to live up to, and we shall wait for its release to see if it does.

The "demo" was able to sell 3 million at $40 a piece, and with a low install base. I'm inclined to think that when the day comes that GT5 releases it'll be able to surprise a few people.

Are you referring to exclusives or otherwise?

Because there is Grid, Ferari Challenge, Formula 1,  and Ridge Racer 7...

Doesn't matter if they're exclusive, as long as a PS3 owner can pick them up. Though, considering I hadn't heard of any of those games besides Grid, I think that serves to support my point a bit. They sure don't sound like very big games.

The problem is besides GT, Sony doesn't have a huge franchise, yes they are loaded with great games, but MS has two huge IP which are extremely popular in the biggest market.

Finishing third is a god thing for Sony, because it's allowing them to focus on their franchise, They just need to market them a little better.

GT5 will not outsell Halo 3. You can quote me on this.

You just added five more pages to these comments with that statement.

On topic I really don't understand why people think GT is going to sell gangbusters with the PS3 install base.

GT3: A-Spec. Released in 2001. Sold 14.81 Million

Don't think that just because the user base isn't ginormous that this game won't sell

I really cannot understand why people think GT5 will not sell as much as GT4 ala 10 million. First flagship GT this generation therefore first time we see online etc yet people think it will not do GT4 numbers, it's just crazy thinking. So many games this generation have outsold others from the same franchsie despite having a smaller userbase.

GT5 is going to be huge, better people accepted it now insteat of 5 years time when the damn thing finally releases. -_-

Now let's not compare apples to oranges.........will Forza 3 outsell GT5 in NA?

Every main series Gran Turismo has sold more than nine million copies. Halo hasn't managed to achieve that. In fact the only Halo game to have topped nine million is Halo 3, which I doubt is getting to the numbers of GT3 (somewhere metween 14 and 15 million). Also, so far the first GT game to be released that generation has always been the best-sellin GT of that generation, topping ten million. This generation has shown that GT is still strong: a demo, as 360 fans say, has reached three million. It would be great for a whole game, let alone demo. I say GT is still popular and GT5 has a good chance of topping ten million (but it's not going to happen fast, if at all).

Then we could argue about what "popular" and "more popular" mean... But in this case we'd better use sales I think. Still, it isn't that easy.

We will have to wait and see for GT5, although it will be hyped massively and i expect a pricecut either before or around the release.

Halo 3 should be at 10 million before GT5 is released.

Anyway... Gran Turismo is WORLD popular... Halo is really popular only in America, and seeing that GT5:Prologue just hit 3 million at retail... its gonna be huge when the real game is released.

My money on this goes to GT.

Bolded = perfect.  3 Million at RETAIL.  Realize the game is also available for purchase from PSN, and let's say it sold 1 million copies on PSN (seems legitimate to me, could even be more).  Demo's selling 4 million copies is just flat out amazing.  You could also say, how much Crackdown sell?  VGC has it currently at 1.48 million...and while a hand full of people might have enjoyed the game, I personally know 3 people who bought Crackdown when it came out for the Halo 3 demo.  To me, that's a great way to have a game sell more than it should, and I believe because of the Halo 3 demo, it did.  Without that demo, Crackdown may not have even broke even/made a profit.  I'll go on record for something that can't be proven and say it never would have broke 1 million without that Demo included..  This is purely speculation on my part, but no one here can provide concrete evidence to the contrary.  It's clear both games have massive selling power, but to compare them at this point when GT hasn't had a full iteration come out in as long as it's been or on current gen consoles, theres no way to legitimately compare the 2 at this point.  If you had to, it's a no-brainer - GT wins hands down just because of total sales over the series life span vs total Halo sales over the series lifespan.

Gran tourismo....the sale's for japan only will be huge.....Halo is a overrated american game.... every american bought it because they shoudl...because its american.
