Forums - Sales Discussion - Super Mario Galaxy week one sales in Japan (it launches Nov 1, 2007)

I'm going to go with the mob here and say 1 mill.

Just kiss the tip.

427,000 week one.

600,000 first week, 1.75m by EOY.

3,500,000 lifetime

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I say... 666.666 first week.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

I'll go for 1.3 Million first week (yes I'm serios). Nintendo has a Wii stockpile and I think they will release it the week of Galaxy. After the delay of brawl thats their title this year. So heavy supply on Wii+Shiny new game+Mario on it = 1.3 Millions.

@ Dolla Dolla, you forgetting that Nintendo will ship much more than the preordered numbers. A preorder is like a reservation, it's a guaranteed sale! Not everybody that wants to buy SMG will preorder it. Look at Halo3, preorders where around 1million if I'm not mistaken. First day sales was a lot more!

I believe the 700k was retailer pre-orders though. I don't know if they ever have actual customer pre-order announcements in Japan, like here in NA. I would like to think they'll ship more or the shops will order more, but you never know. That's why my caveat is: "Whatever they ship, they'll sell like 10-20k less." So, if they ship 1mil, they'll probably sell like 980k or so.

ugh, Nintendo will only ship as many as retailers preorder, it doesn't matter how many nintendo makes, they can only get as many games into the stores as the retailers want.  700k is the number of retail preorders right now, and it might end up being the final number too unless retailers change their mind and get more (like they did with DQS).  People saying over 1 million need to wake up.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
