Forums - Sony Discussion - 4-6 years before good games on PS3? so why buy now?

Where does he say good games, nowhere.

So get lost troll.

Hus, that was really uncalled for. The OP left this thread awhile ago and if you read the thread he apologized rather quickly for the miswording in the title. Feel free to read the rest of the thread and then decide if you want to join in the conversation. I'm sure you will have some interesting rebuttal for me, as long as you keep it free of insults and attacks. Welcome to a troll-less thread, Mr. Hus.

Its just pointless discussion in a pointless thread started by a troll, what Kaz said is pretty much what happend with the PS2. PS2 was the weakest yet did games to equal if not better quality they its more powerfull competition through out that generation.

Even if they aren't maxing out the PS3 the "goodness" of the games is not affected in any negative way and the will be technically superior then the competitions through out this gen.

Hus...that was made clear by about post 4. Are you just coming in to troll this thread then? If someone says something bad about SONY then you must don your savior cape and shout TROLL from the highest mountain. I think you need to remove the last line in your signature unless you think you can join in an intelligent conversation. Otherwise, "get lost troll."

LMAO

Then its a pintless thread. Any one intelligent would not waste their time arguing pintless stuff like this. Thers no point to discussing anyhting, it will take a while to truely max out the PS3 its just the way things are.

So recently I read Kaz Hiria, SCE President, was quoted on OPM in response to certain multiplatorm games looking better on x360 ""the power that we've packed into PS3 will really manifest itself in software titles that come up four, five or six years down the line."

Heres my question though; what is then the point for me to buy a PS3, when the Sony president is saying its going to take 4-6 years before the games on PS3 will really start to outshine the other? What then is my motivation now to buy a 500-600 dollar system if "the good games" wont come out for another 4-6 years from now, when by then they will be probably be a few hundred bucks cheaper and/or new designs

That is a very good question.

If the PS3 was less expensive it might not be a big issue, but in 3-4 years the price will be much lower than it is now, so for many people it makes sense to wait.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

@ super_etecoon,

Don't worry about Hus. He's the type a person that thinks he's got all the right answers, even when he doesn't.

@ Hus

Think that this thread is pointless? Here's an idea: go create one the isn't pointless.
Here's another one: you don't like discussing such things? Don't post then.
Cause, believe it or not, people don't really appreciate when someone negates their right to speak their thought, hopes or doubts about things, even your precious PS3.

My solution? We, those who are intrested in debating over such things, post, while you stay clear and don't read. That way we can all stay happy.

You can throw a tantrum if you really need to.

If you don't like the thread, leave.  Nobody's doing any harm here.

My opinion...every console gets better as it goes, so it's a moot point.  PS3 will get better games, but so will Wii and 360.  Unreal 3 compared to launch titles for 360 is quite different...it only gets better as developers figure out how to work each system best.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Sony has a serious issue dealing with the difference between consumers and investors. A consumer wants a high quality product at a reasonable price. The investor wants to buy into something that will net high returns later on. However we are talking about a product that will drastically drop in price not only through time, but the worse it does the faster the price will drop. To be blunt its a very poor investment. Your going to spend hundreds of dollars more then the next guy to get the exact same thing. There is rarely a reward for early adoption of technology. When it comes to a console it should be getting to play the great games sooner then the late adopter, and having better quality in the here and now.

Obviously Sony is not delivering on either thus they are promising better down the line. However that is of little comfort to the current owners, or potential buyers. The current owner feels ripped off, and the potential buyer asks a relevant question why not wait. Further more they must ask why not buy the other two. Microsoft and Nintendo are going to deliver better quality games in the near term. They are a better choice for the consumer and the investor.

Sony needs to get away from promising tomorrow, and get to making today better for the current market. The potential slogan is really a slogan of take a huge risk. There is no promise that Sony can or will live up to this potential. Too much of the situation is out of their hands. Your also trusting to good judgment on their part which is in no way shape or form a smart move given what has happened over the last nine months.

They need to start connecting with consumers. Start taking care of the consumer they have gotten to this point. They need to start rewarding them now. Rather then patting them on the head, and handing out I.O.Us. Sony has the resources to provide significant content now. They have vaults full of content they can just start handing out. Anything to make the current consumer happy, and that might bring more consumers.

The sales have shown convincingly that the campaign of potential is not driving sales. Near as much as those that Microsoft and Nintendo are putting out. They are both tending to their current customers, and delivering a quality gaming experience , and are providing better goods in the short term. Sony needs to be selling the here and now.

We should be hearing how Sony just gave their current user base a slew of free games. How Sony wrangled a deal for free trials with movie rental outlets. How Sony gave their current customers some free music downloads. How Sony has secured exclusive rights to near term games, or at the very least additional content. Microsoft is doing wonderfully with that.

Sony needs to get the consumers excited about their console now. Have the owners spending quality time with their product. That will create a positive buzz, and they need to do things that create positive press. Taking good care of their consumers will drive far more sales. The potential argument will not, and has never done that. Thats basically the desperation marketing technique it points out that your product is lacking right now to consumers.

The original poster asked a valid question. Perhaps instead of calling them a troll the owners should have made some great argument for their console. There has to be something good about the machine right now. What would the original poster get for their investment.

How is this thread not locked?

The title is a lie, the original poster is a troll.

The original post is followed by several other trolling posts validating it.

Everyone knows games on a system get better in technical specs as the system ages.

If this kind of remarks were made on a Nintendo thread or remarks like Wii games look like crap or whatnot (which by comparison they do with a few exceptions look like crap) the thread would have been locked ages ago.

So I'm locking this thread. If another mod wants to unlock it go ahead.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
