Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last stand of the PS2 ... 99 dollars

April 5th, the end begins....

No real PS3 price drops, but I did discover that the Playstation 2 will see a permanent $30 price drop starting April 5th. It’s definitely not a temporary sale; every flyer I’ve seen says “price drop” or “new low price”. I suppose the timing is an attempt to steal a little thunder from the sure-to-be-huge DSi launch.

goodbye old fr-
oooh is that my Wii???

They should have dropped that price a year or so ago, I don't think it will give it that much of a boost.

Anyway, I think I'll purchase one, just in case...

I'm picking one up

sweet lord, I'm gonna be spending my entire tax refund on games... I swore I would finally get a PS2 when it hit $99 and I have to get the DSi plus all the games I want (which now includes about a million from the PS2)... I'm gonna be so broke.

Awesome news, I know some people thought the PS2 would end its life at $129 but I doubted it and have been waiting for this day.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

I might pick up that silver one that I never bought.

Immediatly thought of this.

I bought a PS2 Slim a couple of months back for $130. It was certainly worth the admission considering the wealth of back catalog I still need to play and plus my old PS2 was crapping out (fat PS2). Glad to own it and purchase it, and more than likely this will increase sales temporarily but not to long. The PS2 is at it's prime and it is time for the PS3 to gain some recognition!

OOPs the link is from October 2003? You have other sources?

yeah right. Gamecube went down to 25 bucks used(50 new) before it stopped selling.
