Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last stand of the PS2 ... 99 dollars

I figured $130 was the final price, apparently not.

I dunno about that. I could have *sworn* the PS1 was $50 on It's last year and $100 shortly before.

Anyways It's no wonder why the PS2 is dropping. Sales are low and the list looks lackluster for new games this year.

4/7 Accent Core Plus

4/14 Guitar Hero: Metallica

4/21 DW: Gundam 2

5/12 Devil Summoner 2

10/29 Motorstorm Artic Edge aka PSP version on PS2.

Granted E3 is still around the corner, so maybe things will change.

Check out Gamestop.com for the list. I think if anything people should save their money for a PS3.

It's just that simple.

ps2 could start selling a lot in poorer countries.

Hmmm that must mean only one thing......Sony's making money off the PS3!

Actually it sells a lot due the piracy.

I may buy one. I sold mine when I got my launch ps3, but now I fear that my ps3 could crap out on me and I won't be able to get another BC one from Sony.

It may be a good idea to buy two of these....one for me....and one for ebay in a couple of years :D

no one in poorer countries will ever buy full priced games.

Finally! I have been waiting forever. Still, my interest in video games is dwindling... very very fast. I don't know whats wrong with me! :(

It's more the fact that the "big three" don't have much of a presence in poorer countries, so their products are sold for much higher prices there than elsewhere.

That is staring to change, however.  Sony recently created a new branch under SCEA that will cater to Latin America, for example.

Actually, Sony's activeness in pursuing smaller markets is why they have such success in Europe.  They opened the eyes of most European gamers to gaming via the PlayStation.  They also still have an advantage in some of the smaller markets in Eurasia as a result.  For example, they have a dedicated branch for New Zealand (SCENZ), while the other two console manufactures do not.

Now that I think about it, maybe Sony hopes that they'll be able to take control of the up and coming Latin American market before Nintendo or Microsoft can even make much of an entrance, much like how Sony essentially controlled the European market for the last two gens.

I'll probably snag one just in case my PS3 dies or for work.
