Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which was better: Nintendo 64 or Playstation?

ps1 all the way. although N64 was great too.

N64 was a far superior machine. It's capabilities were far beyond the PS1. You only have to look at titles like Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 to see far superior graphics. Also Zelda OOT is another example of massive jump in graphics over anyhting the PS1 had.

In terms of games PS1 had more games, but the N64 had the better blockbusters IMO.

The only game on PS1 that matched the quality of N64 was FF7.

PS1 had nothing that played as smooth or was as good as the following:

Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Mario Kart 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Zelda OOT
Zelda MM
Donkey Kong 64
F - Zero X
Killer Instinct Gold

The only genre where N64 lost out was JRPG's. But N64 blockbusters were amazing.

PS1: Spyro the Dragon, Disruptor, Crash Bandicoot 1-4.
64: Nothing that I care about.

Very strange. I know it's opinion and all, but the games you mention for the PS1 are all platform games.

The N64 had so many platform games that made the ones you mention seem unimaginative and dull, not to mention the graphics just looked bad next to it.

Banjo, Donkey Kong and Mario 64 all played, designed and looked far far better than any PS1 platformer could hope to.

:) LOL

I played both alot. PS1 for sure. N64 had some great games but the only thing that really stands out for me was Smash.

4 ≈ One

N64. It's arguably the best console ever. The only reason the ps2 beats it out for me is just because it had SO MANY ricken fgames.

Edit:

To the guys just talking about games, don't forget to look at the other features as well!  The N64 as the umltimate plug in and play console.  There were practically no load times, so in under a minute you could be roaming around Hyrule on Epona.  It was really great if you didn't have a lot of time to play.  In a mere 20 minutes, you could still get something done in your games.

PS1 is why I started disliking Sony in the first place since I bought a first generation PS1 which of course overheated right after the warranty ran out. I will never buy a single Sony product again except maybe a movie which unfortunately they have some decent ones.

How in the HELL did you overheat your PS1!!! I left mine on for weeks at a time or even 2 months when I first got it and had no memory card. It still works I just put it in a box sometime last year. I mean the thing is held together with duct tape and a few minor repairs here and the but I abused the hell out of it. It was like that pair of sneakers you were never able to part with. :P

FootballFan - "GT has never been bigger than Halo. Now do a comparison between the two attach ratios and watch GT get stomped by Halo. Reach will sell 5 million more than GT5. Quote me on it."

Bad design... the first wave of PS1 had the laser lens way close to the adapter...

Second wave PS1 had the problem solved AFAIK.

Mine died too...

On topic... I had both... and despite the lack of games, N64 is my favourite console of all time (and I play games since the Atari2600 came out).

SM64, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark, Zelda, Turok 2, Shadowman, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.... they were so superior to the ps1 games It was not even fair (I think shadowman maybe was on PS1 too...)

As I don't like FF or MGS games (don't think they are bad either, just not my type), the only games I remember with such passion are Silent Hill1 and Soul Edge
