pro+wifi already=same price as the PS3 for less hard drive capacity, no blu ray and no online gameplay. Add in even one year of Live and the 360 is more then the PS3.

I don't see how the value proposition really changes here unless they are going to start throwing in online for free or include wifi (which the cheap Wii has had from the beginning, it can't cost more then 10-15 dollars to implement).

It changes if Blu Ray isn't worth very much/anything and if Wifi isn't needed. Both are ture for a lot of people.

This.

There really isn't anything to argue over. PS3 is suppsoedly having superior exclusives lately and is still trailing 360 in sales. Value is the only reason why this is happening. It certanly isn't because people love the Microsoft brand.

If MS is really going to implement these changes, they seem to be going for the jugular. It looks like MS wants to put the foot on the gas while Sony is unable to respond. Sounds like good business to me.

Any of these SKU changes are to keep the 360 as cost effective as possible as the #1 goal. MS knows that 60GB HDD are starting to be discontinued as the mass produced models. Check yourself it is now cheaper to purchase a 80GB than it is to purchase a 60GB at www.newegg.com and in fact you can get a 120GB drive for only $5 more.

There is no desparation here. Get used to this. Every year the size of HDD in the 360 will increase to keep COSTS DOWN.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Well.....any changes MS implements, will probably be sku related. I don't see another price cut, so this rumor will probably be implemented when/if Sony does a price cut.

Right now MS is sitting pretty in the HD (360/PS3) battle, enjoying it's 8 mil lead, NA dominance, and largest library of games. This is just strategic planning to counter whatever Sony throws it's direction. We shall see if this "rumor" comes to light soon enough..........

Price cut will be in addition to any changes to the product (changes in HDD size, etc.). Remember changing the HDD is so that they can indeed cut the price of the console. Keeping smaller HDDs that arent being made in mass quantities results in higher cost to produce the 360.

If the arcade built-in memory gets upgraded it will most likely be to 512Mb. It'll be cheap and will bullet-point match the wii, something MS has always been very keen on (bullet-point matching).

The pro will get it's yearly HDD bump, mostly because the size of the cheapest HDD increases each year.

MS didn't destroy shit as they couldn't outsell the PS3 2:1 not even in their turf, USA. That's a pretty pathetic victory having HALF the price and a BIG franchise sequel like Gow2 for the holidays. It didn't last long anyway.

Whatever. I find it laughable Microsoft's gaming division is so DESPERATE that even with their current lead and price-tag, they are shaking, I've never seen that before in my life!! A console priced half the competition, winning in sales, and less than 6 month after a global price-cut peeing in their pants already??? The truth is, they'd better stay put when the PS3 cut happens, 'cause if they do something rash as to get themselves into the red again (by doing premature cuts, as little as they'd seem, and incrementing hardware costs adding stuff for new SKUs) that will bury them for sure!

So, is Microsoft killing the Wii?  Why wouldn't Microsoft attempt to battle Nintendo, which is why they make the price cut and so on?

Dude. Do you realize not only the 360 outsells the ps3 but also that Microsoft gaming division posts profits while Sony's gaming division posts losses?

I can see a memory unit upgrade on the Arcade. No way will they put a 20 GB HDD on it though -- short themselves some serious cash on the $100 60 GB pack, while increasing their losses on each Arcade SKU? I don't think so. That'd be pretty knuckleheaded of them.

I also don't think they're going to bundle a HDMI cable with the Pro -- again, cutting their per/unit profit... not a good idea. HDMI cables are not that cheap to manufacture -- they'd be better off upping the HDD to 80GB (something they can talk about in big digits on the box), or even bundling software -- and they certainly aren't going to do all of that.

MS's profits are from software, not hardware -- they aren't going to make the hardware thorn bigger, they'll just scale it up to match the PS3 bullet points (80 GB drive), and still keep the price low, without shooting themselves in the foot.

20 gig in the arcade makes sence to combat PS3 pricedrop because I cant see the 360 being so cheap to produce that they could drop it to $150. That would mean the arcade was the same price as the 120 gig HD....Dear God... :O Anyway they would staand to make some cash from arcade users who might casually downoald a movie or two.
