Forums - Nintendo Discussion - One of the best RPG I've ever played: Dragon Quest V DS!!!

I bought this game yesterday (Dragon Quest: the hand of the heavenly Bride / Dragon Quest: la fiancée céleste). And whoa! This game enters my top 3 favourite RPG's of all time. It's one of those old fashioned RPG where you can just attack/use magic/use items and flee, nothing less, nothing more. The story is brilliant, much better than what I've played on HD console. Graphics are good for a game on DS. It's pretty difficult because you often die and you don't have many clues to know where you have to go to continue your adventure. So, if you have a DS and if you're a RPG fan, go buy this one. If you don't have a DS, you should think about getting one for this trilogy!

WTF, nobody bought this gem???

thanks, i haven't found a new rpg to fall in love with since Kingdom Hearts and i've been wanting to give a dragon quest a try

no i know which one to get at

I am very tempted now that you've posted this.

Will definitely buy this one. Still haven't finished IV, but enjoying it a lot and most people say V is even better.

I'm glad the whole trilogy is released on DS, it's a fantastic series.

Is it more fun than DQVIII? I found DQVIII rather dull.

If it helps, I pretty much second the OP's enthusiasm--it really is an amazingly fun, back-to-basics, JRPG with a whimsical spirit that's a welcome break from all the Deadly Serious JRPGs(TM) with which we're typically 'blessed.'

Plus, the battle graphics are just drop dead gorgeous, especially the almost ludicrously fluid enemy animation (and in glorious 2D, to boot!), plus there are some wonderful musical tracks.

The only downside I can really think of is that, at some points, you'll want more dialogue (if only to prolongue and deepen the sweetest moments).

I really can't recommend it enough.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that DQ hit its peak with IV-VI and its been a bit of a slide in quality with VII and VIII--hopefully IX arrests this and is a true return to form.

Ok thx. I am going to check it out if I have some time.

Yeah, I found DQVIII boring (Level-5 here), but then I loved DQIV. DQIV-VI are a trilogy, right now I´m into the end of DQV and with the party talk and having the main character through his infancy to adulthood makes it better than DQIV.
