Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I repeat... Griffball is why Halo 3 is king of the FPS!

Where did I say there was still halo hype? People buy halo because they are told to. It is that simple.

Are you feeling alright? This makes no sense at all. That would apply far more to KZ2 than Halo. KZ2 is on a system that doesn't usually serve to the western-centric. Alot of Eastern-centric gamers even bought KZ2 just to pay homage to Sony's greatness. I got it because I think it's a great shooter. I've seen gamers who would've never thought to play a PS3 FPS pick up KZ2 or Resistance 2 just because of hype. Sony had to pander to the west because the west has the strongest consumption rate and Japan isn't showing any signs of compliance right now. Eastern-centric gamers didn't have to follow suit...but they did because hype. Actually FPS fans should be buying PS3's to get their hands on this game because its pretty good, beautiful graphics, but pretty good.

Half Life 2 anyone?

Funny thing is, everyone I know thinks halo is highly over rated. Even people who do like and own halo1/2/3 think its over rated. Ever hear someone say UT is over rated? I haven't :] Halo isn't king. There is no king.

Well no... but noone I know talks about UT. Unlike Halo.

You don't get it do you? The masses will take whatever you feed them as fact. Look at haze. Before it came out lots of people hyped it up. One review for it was bad and then everyone hated it without even playing it.

Look at halo, microsoft and a few pin heads were like "zomg this is the best game, evaR!" People decided to get it. Wasted their money and convinced themselves that it was amazing and clearly the best game ever.

People are sheep. My friend pre ordered killzone 2, was waiting for it so greatly. One of her friends said the demo sucked, so she canceled her preorder.

If someone in power tells you what is good or what isn't, then you will believe them.

I shall call this the halo effect from now on. :]

I think it is YOU that don't get it. I got Halo:CE a full 3 years after it came out. I heard of it, wasn't impressed, didn't have an Xbox. Then I started hanging out with people that played it, and the game pulled me in. They didn't convince themselves it was amazing, the game convinced them. You disagree, but fortunately everyone knows you're wrong. "People are sheep." I agree. for the first year out of the gate, the PS3 had almost nothing but disappointments and misfires to call its own. Fortunately, sheep bought the $600 console based on their love of the PS2. This isn't an argument that you want to go into, because unlike early PS3 adopters, just about everyone who bought any of the Halos was happy with their decision.

Your two numbers are ridiculous comparisons. 300,000 people a day play Halo 3. Dos that mean 300,000 people total? No, real people with jobs don't nessecarily have time to play everyday.

As for 800,000 playing SC, #1 StarCraft was a phenomenon, and to date has sold more than Halo 3 - On top fo that, it's an RTS, a strategy that classically can hold people for more hours than a FPS. Lastly, your number isn't an apples to apples comparison. 800,000 people a day aren't playing SC. Maybe 800,000 active players, but Halo 3 easily has over a million active players, just not people that play every day.

(Also, noone anywhere plays SC offline these days... whereas Halo 3 over LANs, split screen, and Coop, is still popular)

I bought my PS3 the day MGS4 came out. I was very happy indeed. and that 800,000 is on at anytime world wide. It tells you how many people are currently on when you sign on. I still play quite a bit. Halo 3 isn't as popular as everyone would like to think it is. games aren't like movies, 65 million people wont play a game like they will see a movie.

Sheesh, how many more threads will I start that will get people banned? Sorry, that is NOT my intention. I just wanted to write a thread as a tribute to Halo, and what it had become, and apparently it cause some to be offended and get themselves banned. And yes, Griffball is my iconic example of why.

Back on the news of Grifball. Has anyone tried out that new Grifball arena for the Mythic Map Pack? Its the Crypt section of Sandbox. I heard it's bigger than Foundry's Grifball map. Dunno for sure. I really want to try it out, but Mythic Map pack isn't on Xbox live Marketplace yet.

For that matter, has anyone thought of the idea of making a 16 player maze grifball map? I don't think it will work as well, but everythin' is worth a shot.

Anyway, Grifball rules! Really get's ya goin' sometimes.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Halo is awesome. But CSS surfing is still The evergreen for me, you just gotta love it.

I can imagine the Griffball arena be turned into a paintball or lazer tag type arena.  If it lets you throw up walls and so on, it is likely to happen.  I wonder if it is big enough to allow for an indoor Mongoose or other vehicle racing track.
