Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sega preparing to create a new console?

Let's see

1. Sega SAYS it is arcade boards/machines in the filing.
2. Sega just reported a large loss and layoffs.
3. Don Reisinger is not known for being the most-unbiased of commentators (he hates the Wii for example).

Therefore -- BS dream of the author.

I doubt anyone would come into the market right now. Economic issues have limited Sega. Meanwhile, Apple will not undertake any new strategic initiatives until Steve Jobs' health situation has been resolved (He is out on indefinite leave for health issues. And there are many investors who equate him with Apple -- meaning that without him, they won't back Apple.)

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Maybe sega will join forces with MS. That would be my wet dream. ;P

I think they'd start with a handheld first.

or maybe they better would join force with the company who own the console there games are selling on?

SEGA makes outdated games and all their IP's are from the past. They're getting crushed by Nintendo.

SEGA will have a tuff time surviving as a software company. I beliebe they will be bought within a couple of years and most of their IPs will be deleted.

I don't think we have room for another console, three is enough.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I really pulled for the Dreamcast.  Felt they should have hung on a bit longer.

Current trend is that a gen winner gets 100+million HW sales, and a console needs to sell 20 to 45million minimum HW units to be profitable (depending on development and HWcosts and pricing strategy), with Sony and MS closer to the upper limit in this field, so to have enough room for 4 consoles the market will have to grow to at least 220million buyers, but as most probably this gen winner and the next ones will beat PS2's record, 250million will be the minimum market size to allow that.

I think that if they keep this course they will not survive to see the next gen.
