What mysterious market are they selling 2 million unaccounted shipments to that every major chart chracker missed? Iraq? South Africa? Iran? Sorry, but they didn't sell 2 freakin million to those places while selling 1 million in the US. Padded numbers confirmed

it was directed to taco boy. :P

I'm not sure what countries you guys live in, but every store i went to on boxing day in Canada was sold out of all systems except the DS and PSP. No way in the world are their anywhere close to 2mil at stores for the end of 2008. Sony's warehouses are also holding 8.5% more then last year, so its not like Sony stuffed the market.

VGC numbers have over whelmingly been confirmed by everyone including NPD, media crate.and everyone else. If anything its over tracked by Sony's padded numbers of ghost sales

What did the five fingers.... Say to the face ?...

SLAP !

No sony can't lie about their numbers. It's illigal.

Check out my game about moles ^

@topic

didnt sony told us that there were selling 50 mil ps2 in us ... so check npd numbers (43.3)

npd quartal numbers for ps3 in the us is 1.3 mil plus 0.4 in japan ... and now what ??? 2.9 in europe ??? NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sony just tryin to fix there numbers

it could be undertracked a bit, but this could also explain the reason for random price cuts at stores n such.

If vgchartz numbers are right, that's mean that retailers have more than 3 months PS3 in stock !!!

(because PS3 actually sell around 150k / week)

I think it's too big to be true, or PS3 shipments for the next quarter (ending marsh 31 09) will be very, very, very low...

we will see in next quarterly reports whether or not they channelstuffed (if that is considerably down from last year)

on a positive note, Sony only needs 1.55mln in Q4 to reach it's expected FY2008 PS3 shippments of 10mln units

@ skilllz )
FY2006 shippments for PS3 were 3.57 mln and not 1.3 mln (remember, that FY Q4 2006 is Q1 2007 in reality)

Shall I share my own quaint anecdotal story to contradict yours? I'll save you the time and simply point out that you live in Canada, and you probably visited stores within a 50 mile radius of your home on Boxing Day. That's not very representative if you ask me.

Sony announced that they have shipped 4.46 million consoles for Q3(end of December)

http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSTKX00417420090129

16.84+4.46=21.30 million LTD

We have PS3 at 19.26 sold to customers by the end of december

(

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=38683&end=39810&weekly=1   )

which means  more than 2 million console are on the shelves which does not seem right.

For comparison: we have X360 700 K lower than shipped number(27.3 sold Vs. 28 shipped)

MS announced 28.5 million shipped and from the stats that we have (NPD for NA, famitsu/MC for Japan, charttrack for europe ) the ps3 is OVERTRACKED but whatever makes you sleep better at night .
