As a continuation of this point, what games do you feel SHOULD be played in order to get the full effect and enjoyment out of them?

I played MGS2 before MGS3, and DMC2 before DMC3....both were sequels before prequels :)

I played Parasite Eve 2 before playing parasite Eve 1. Part II compelled me to get part one

Is shadow of the Colossus a sequel to ICO the ending of SotC seemed a bit confusing to me and seems like it was a sequel?

OT:I really try to avoid playing sequels if I haven't played the prequel, I like knowing whats going on :)

Prequel does NOT mean the previous release. The word is a combination of "previous" and "sequel". A previous sequel. If the work was made before, it cannot possibly be a prequel.

No, this not up to debate or "I think it means" or "I would call it a prequel" crap. The word was coined specifically to cover sequels that took place before the original.

Shadow is actually a prequel. The second sentence should be "if I haven't played the earlier/previous games".

Seriously, I didn't feel like typing "Will you play a sequel without having played the game released at an earlier date within the series" it wouldn't have fit in the title, whether it is being used correctly or not, it carried the intended meaning of my initial use of the term such that other people could understand it.
