Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony to Buy Rockstar

Calm down there vizunary. Let's not cry "troll" all the time...I disagree with him as well, I think GTA could be the biggest seller...but it's an unknown right now, so he's entitled to his opinion as are you...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Not buying that for a second. If anything, Rockstar has been pulling away from Sony (Table Tennis, exclusive Xbox 360 GTA 4 episodes, Manhunt 2, Bully: Scholarship Edition...), and if Rockstar was really for sale (although I don't know why Take 2 would be selling what is probably their most profitable studio), Microsoft should have no problem outbidding Sony. Also, no reputable gaming website reported on recent Rockstar going PS3 exclusive rumors, just blogs and various lesser websites.

I'm putting this rumor in a fanboys' wishful thinking drawer for now.

This sounds pretty reasonable.

Has GeOW2 even been announced yet?
GeOW2 wouldnt outsell GTAIV and GTA:SA wasnt the best GTA ever but it was still good hopefully GTAIV can revitilise the series to what it used to be.
Halo3 might outsell GTAIV but that would probably be a close call i think they are both very hyped and massive franchise.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

Hmm.... Rockstar are pulling away from Sony yet they announced LA Noire as PS3 Exclusive, and Sony themselves confirmed another new IP to be PS3 exclusive. No one is saying they're abandoning sony, but at the same time, there's no arguing they're no longer as fond of the PS as they once were.

That is not pulling away, no matter how you spin it.

Since almost all of Rockstars games were basically Sony exclusives last gen, the fact that only two of their games are Ps3 exclusive now does indeed show them pulling away.

No, a lot of Rockstar games are timed exclusive, not completely exclusive. There is a big difference between the two.

GTA is bigger then both Halo and Gears of War combined. You only need to look at the sale figures to tell that....

Even if many were only timed exclusives there were still regular exclusives and no matter how you slice it Rockstar still had a much stronger presence on Sony then it does now. They are pulling away in favor of supporting all three consoles more so than just one and then giving second helpings to another.

San andreas sucked and Im a rap guy, I bought it after I got my ps3 and it sucked balls, The reason why I bought it was becuase I had a psp, and I bought GTA:liberty and GTA vice city S, those were one of the best psp games I had ever bought. Along with daxter and DBZ.  Halo 3 wont outsell GTA.

And you assume Sony is anymore likely to make this purchase as a company when so far MS is the only one we've ever seen to buy a major studio of any kind. Wasn't Sony walking on egg shells with investors not too long ago over the money the PlayStation division is losing them? How would a ridiculous expenditure such as purchasing something the size of Rockstar help the matter and not just Forsake the PlayStation or Sony altogether?

It's a tempting prospect I know but we have to ask ourselves at what point does wishful thinking become a matter of simply closing our eyes and covering our ears?

Sony never purchesed a major studio ? So sony wished and alll their devs magicly appeared.

Ask your self, do you know what GTA is and how big it really is.

This sounds unlikely, I think if R* was in serious financial trouble, they would've gone ahead and release GTAIV, not delayed it half a year.

However, stranger things have happened, and like most people said above, R* appears to have been pulling away from Sony this past year. They were an integral part of the PS2's success, so maybe Sony sees it as a wise investment for PS3 and following consoles.

Still, I find it highly unlikely this is true, for most of the previously stated reasons.

Explain to me how any of Sony's purchased second party developers were ever major studios?

Well, Psygnosis was pretty big when they bought it way back.

I'm sure there are other too but I can't be bothered to check really.
