Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What is Microsoft's marquee title for 2009?

It will be Alan Wake.

2 million sold in the US
1.2 million sold in Europe
0.05 million sold in Japan
--------------------------
= 3.25 million

Peter Molyneux is supposed to announce his next game at GDC, but I highly doubt it will come out that year. Microsoft does have a habit of announcing games the year they came out like Gears 2(everyone knew it was coming, but not a lot of people expected it to be made in 2 years). Lips, You're in the Movies, and Scene it were announced at E3, and yes they are not big titles but they do help bring in a different consumer and i expect to see squeals for each of those games. Rare has like 3 projects they are working on, so we should see something from them next year. They probably will release Forza to compete with GT5 and maybe a new PGR, hopefully they get Bizarre since they own the rights to the Kudos system. I trust Microsoft knows what they are doing, and next year will be a bigger year for them.

you think it will put up numbers like that? I hope so like i said before though i can't decide on this title yet, oh and i think Halo 3: ODST will put up bigger numbers than that

Ninja Blaide will be released 29th January.

besides that, I think MS will have Mass Effect 2 maybe, but as state, could be multi-plat, Star Ocean: The last hope comes out in march, Alan Wake likely, I mean, it has to come out sometime, Forza 3 not a huge title, definitely will lose going toe to toe with GT5, Splinter Cell vaporware?  Haven't seen or heard anything about this, Conker ? (You heard it here first) and Assassins Creed 2 exclusively Given the PS3 sales of the game, Ubisoft would be stuipd. I think MS might buy Assassins Creed 2 to be exclusive, just a thought got no proof. MS will make sure, there is something big coming out. As you said, they had a huge game every year, this one won't be different.

And there is a new lionhead-game to be revealed early next year. If Peter Molyneux does the same like he did with Fable II, I will be happy.

Sorry but you comment about Forza 3 is strange. So by the same logic Resistance 2 is not a huge title, definitely will lose going toe to toe with [insert genre king here].

@ Dirty

And how much of Forza's 4.15 million sales were bundled? Well over 2 million If my calculations are correct. Bundled with every Arcade, Pro, and Elite 360 last year might have helped sales a teeny bit, dontcha think?

But again, this is off-topic.

Following this logic, Wii Sports Resort won't sell at all.

Again, off topic.

Wii Sports is only bundled in America, 360 bundle was NA + EU.  Where the bulk of sales came in.  And Wii Sports Resort will be bundled with WM+, so it's also a bundle.  But none of this is on-topic.

Either answer the quesiton (you already did), or leave the thread.  As you're derailing this.

wat?

Is it really bundled in EU?

Oh well.

Do you have something to add to the topic?

I take that as a no, as usual...  >_>

!!! How dare you talk to Neos like that! You should be permabanned!

...At any rate, yes, Wii Sports was bundled in Europe just like it was in the US - with every Wii console sold.

Going back to Forza 3 as a 'big' possible title in 2009:

It could certainly be a big title. I agree with you that FM2 probably sold around ~2 million units, or a bit more, and the rest was bundled. Thing is, Forza 1 bombed beyond all reason. It sold 1 million with bundles. And FM2 doubled that before bundling.

Because of this, another Forza sequel, if promoted right, could be a big game in PAL territories to counter GT5-mainia in Europe next year...Microsoft could easily market it properly to counter the bigger GT series, and wind up selling 2m+ copies in PAL alone. The same could be said with PGR5 if Turn-10 did it. Of course, PGR has been in the gutter, sales wise, thanks to 4 doing pretty bad.

Although it didn't sell 4,000,000+ copies, it does have 4,000,000+ players, and that gives it a good install base to sell to (ala Super Mario Bros. 3 in the US, after SMB1 was bundled).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Why bring up Resistance?

Isn't a huge title compared to a Gears or a Halo.  I don't know when I've ever said otherwise.

Oh, because I like the PS3 Resistance 2 must be a huge title?

Please, check your bias at the door.

Star Ocean, halo3/wars/forza/mass effect 2

No because if you discredit Forza 2 as a marquee title just because it will sell less than GT, wouldn't that discredit a lot of other titles, because they aren't the cream of the crop?

Also resistance is the most recent example. I was going to pick MGS4, but was unsure what genre to put it in. (Stupid Hybrid Genre)

Yes, and rightfully so.

But this isn't on topic.

Microsoft is actually pretty crap at keeping these things a secret, which is why I made this thread. The price cuts, Avatars and the like were all leaked way before being announced. >_>

Figured we would have stumbled across something by now.

Pretty crap? While yes i do agree they aren't the best (your points about the avatars and such are spot on) they can keep a big secret if they really want to...remember the FFXIII announcement?

That was Square Enix.

And this is off-topic.

Proving you wrong is not off-topic.
