Sony needs to understand that to most consumers, the actual cost of something is far more important than the perceived value.

Uh... I don't think you understand what perceived value means. Perceived Value = What you are willing to pay for a product. Basically if you took the Wii, 360 and PS3... and priced them so they sold the exact same amount... you could tell their perceived values in relation to each other.

Yeah, it was a typo.

I would dare to say PS3's perceived value is quite high as its having quite brilliant sales for its price compared to the other consoles.

but maybe it isn't as brand image n stuff comes in too..

I think the real problem is.

People usually hate multi-function devices.

People have been more open to it lately with the Iphone and the like...

but usually people want their products to do one thing, because otherwise they think one of the multiple features is going to be deficient, they both are, or the overall quality and durability of the product will be bad.

Brand image is a part of perceived value.

Actually it's funny there are consumer psychology methods to get the exact perceived cost of an item.

Right down to the perceived value of each component.

Like, if you were selling peanut butter, they could tell you exactly how much money the taste is worth, how much the brand name is worth, the label etc.

Amazing stuff.

Everyone wants a "lifestyle brand" now a days.

Not surprised. They don't want to lose too much cash...

Sony are not yet in a position to fight with the Wii or 360 so they are doing what is right business wise which is to make sure they don't lose much money on the consoles. Once the parts for the console decreases price will decrease and then Sony will start worrying about Wii and 360. People forget so quickly that the Sony gaming division has 3 consoles and well they have brand name, it will just keep selling.

Come on be honest, once PS3's price decreases by $100 does anyone think it will not mop the floor with 360? Of course the price can go down for 360 but consumers are not retards, they will know what the systems are capable of.

Wait are you bringing up 6 month old news?

Amazing.

they are making money back this way :) it only costs 474 bucks to make a ps3! (now a days)

If they want to try and move consoles at the existing price then they should be including a couple of first party games with perceived high value, such as LBP & MGS4 and perhaps GT5:P S3 as well. They are games that people are likely to want anyway so they will see the $150 of included games and be able to justify the cost. When they are first party games, the only real cost to them is the manufacturing costs of the games.

It may mean some lost income as people are likely to buy those games anyway, but at least it will help people justify paying double the cost of a 360. Once they own the console then they will probably use the money they would have used to buy the bundled games on newer releases like R2, KZ2, FF13, etc.

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

a 100$ price hike: the 160GB Drake bundle will be released on Nov. 30th and will cost 500 bucks.

Seriously, what were they thinking?

Old news.
