I think it's safe to say Fallout 3 is doing very well. Overshipped? Possibly, but:

I think the title was very misleading...

But no I do not think either is considered a flop. R2 it is hard to tell and it is disappointing that some are judging by one week of sales. Also I have yet to see an ad for the game outside of a gaming sight. Fallout 3 ads were on TV for a long time on many different channels. R3 may be a game that they are looking more for legs than a huge initial sell though.

Resistance 2 was not a flop either, it was just fanboys calling it a flop because the franchise is not as big as Gears of War, and we already knew that anyway

Fallout 3 did better than pretty much anyone expected.

4.7 million copies shipped.

3.3 million already sold on PS360 and with PC sales it's probably over 4 million.

And it still is sold for $60 everywhere which means retailers aren't desperate to get it off the shelves (this means it wasn't overshipped).

Fallout 3 has only been outsold by GTA4, CoD, Halo, Assassin's Creed, Gears of War and Guitar Hero in this gen on the PS360.

It was a big hit.

You gotta hand it to them, Bethesda knows how to bring home the bacon. Oblivion sold rather well too.

Next year is TES5, by the way.

Fallout 3 seems to be doing very well

However, Sony was expecting it to compete with Gears 2 so they obviously had the mindset that it could be as big. We may have known it's not, but it was pushed to be, so while it may not qualify as "flop" it should at least be highly dissappointing for them to see the gap in sales between Res 2 and Gears 2.
