Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Blue Dragon Demo-What Say You?

The Blue Dragon demo has been out for a while now, how many of you have played it and what do you think?

I'm going to comment after I see other people's reactions and I still need to try the other dungeon that I didn't play yet.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I downloaded it the week of E3, when it came out.

My opinion - I was semi-anticipating Blue Dragon before the demo. It looked like a kinda fun, chilidish RPG.

What I decided after the demo is that Blue Dragon is quite possibly the Xbox 360 Masterpiece.

It combined (atleast IMO) the best things about Final Fantasy 6 and 7 together into one uber-game. It has FF6's great locations (Ruins reminded me of Phantom Forest), and the Fortress reminded me of an area right from Final Fantasy 4 (the Giant).

Gameplay wise, it reminded me of what made FF6/7 perfect - a very simple, easy to understand job system that just kicked butt. The dragon classes are amazingly simple, but have insanely good skills/abilities.

So the game went from a "probably buy" to "pre-order" status for me. Mind you, I've only reserved about 5 games my entire life of gaming (since 89) - only Final Fantasy 6, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Zelda: OoT and Oblivion have ever, ever, been games I've pre-ordered.

The demo had some real minor framerate issues, but otherwise ok. The voice acting in the fortress was rather interesting, in a good way.

The only thing iffy is the text - it's kinda small like Dead Rising, but not nearly as bad. I had a little trouble seeing comments on various skills, and item effects, but shouldn't be too bad.

Again, loved the demo. Some people thought it was only OK, but it's either because they don't like traditional JRPGs. This game IS a standard by-the-book JRPG, with nothing really re-defining the formula. However, it uses a perfected formula from what I've seen in the game. I know the full game is going to be fantastic.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Must not be so good then, as these are far from being the best things about FFVI and FFVII. Especially since FFVI and FFVII had no job system.
Actually, it's pretty sad for a JRPG, when all is noticed about it is some technical specs.
And FFVII materia system was complicated anyway.
Looks like a good JRPG anyway, but I have the feeling it will be a total disappointment sales wise, especially given the NA XB360 demographic. Zamaa miro Sakaguchi san!

Actually, I was reffering to the Materia/Esper system that endowed powers, rather than inherant jobs.

The style of the whole epic story is what reminds me of 4/6, as like I said,

Have you even played BD to know, or are you just trying to troll?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Frankly when I first played the demo, I wasn't that impressed but after a little while it grew on me. It was really nice to play a game that wasn't a shooter. I used to be an rpg fanatic but this generation all the game i've bought or played we're shooters or some variant of it. After the demo, I wanted to buy the game but I don't know if I should get this first then get bioshock or if i should get bioshock then blue dragon.

There were a lot of differing factors that made this game a "must buy" for me. The first is I loved Dragonball Z so the art style hooked me right there. then there is the fact that other than Pokemon I haven't played a real turn based RPG in a long time. My last traditional JRPG may have been FFVII. Now that I'm no longer in school and I only have to work I have time to be immersed in these types of games again.

I can't wait to get the game and see how the characters may differ once they are leveled up. I haven't gotten tired of playing the demo over and over so I really look forward to the full game. I can't believe how this gen I'm playing totally different types of games. Last gen it was shooters and racers, while this gen it's RPG's and RTS's that take up most of my time.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I really like the art style, animations, and overall look and feel of the game. I actually prefer turn-based RPGs to action rpgs so I was very much looking forward to this one. I've played the demo twice and outside of the above comments, one overall word I would use to describe the gameplay (and hence why I didn't like it) is "tedious". It seemed just one battle after the next and very little story time. Am I missing something here?

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I don't like the art style and animation (never did, why I don't like Dragon Warrior games), but I have yet to play the game, so it could have a lot of depth to it. If I owned a 360, I would definitely choose Lost Odyssey over this, however.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I really like the art style, but I still think this game is not going to go over too well with the American public, despite being amazing. Like I said before, Lost Odyssey is much more well suited for the western public.

Consoles I Own: NES, SNES, N64, GC, GBA, DS, X360, Wii

I loved the art style also. The battle system was really cool I thought. I think what I enjoyed most about this game was its design and interface, when you are selecting your characters and moves that little window drops down from the upper left corner and zooms in on their face. The music was kinda cool but it seems like its straight from an anime or something. Really I can't quite figure out what it was that pumped me up so much playing this game, maybe just the simple fact I was playing a JRPG on an Xbox. When I get my own 360 this game is must buy for me.
