Forums - Sony Discussion - Jack Tretton's at it again.

Just when i thought that some people had learned when to shut up I get surprised.

In the wrong kind of way.

http://gamepro.com/gamepro/domestic/games/features/122948.shtml

How would you describe each current game console if you had to describe it as a meal or food?

JT: I probably couldn't do it objectively.

You don't need to be objective!

I think the PS3 is the Surf 'n Turf. You want the lobster and steak and you're going to give yourself the treat of getting the best thing on the menu. The PS2 is your favorite burger restaurant -- you go there for comfort food and it's just always good and is a good value.

[As for the other two consoles], one [Wii] is a lollipop, and I'm too old for lollipops. The other one [Xbox 360] I get sick from once in a while because the cook isn't always reliable.

Now the thing that really bugs me isn't Tretton at all. It's what the reporter says during the interview. And he supposeably represents a non-biased gaming magazine. Ugh.

What else did you expect? To say something good about the Wii/360 when directly compairing it to the PS3?

Everyone is biased.

I agree with Don, this is not surprising. Of course Tretton is biased, and he was effectively baited in to this: the reporter asked him to comment on the other systems, even in a subjective manner.

But it is amusing to see him still suggesting the Wii/DS are for kids, when there is no a statistical evidence (instead of just lots of anecdotal evidence, which also exists but is not as convincing) that those two systems are greatly expanding the adult and female markets. Maybe if he says it enough, it will be true?

hahahahahah wow, I laugh at that, but you have to admit the 360 isnt reliable, and the wii is for a younger audience, while the ps3 is more for everyone.

I am also too old for lolipops.... just like i was too old for colorful lunchboxes last gen

He's too old for lollipops? He's too old for videogames then. I am surprised he didn't say "10 year life cycle" once.

PS3 is already out of the price range "for everyone."

Once again, the Wii/DS are the ones that are expanding in to the adult audience. Not only can I support this with strong ancedotal evidence -- I have personally sold a good deal of Wiis to adults and even to the elderly -- but also with statistical evidence, as shown at Nintendo's E3 press conference. Nintendo's sales to the adult market have literally doubled in the last two years, which is enormous and rapid growth.

I view the Wii like a Pixar movie. Let's pick Finding Nemo, for example. It's a movie that can be enjoyed by kids, definitely, but it also is enjoyable to adults because of its (often) sophisticated humor and adult themes (the difficulty in letting go of children,  the fear of loss stunting growth). However, I think 16 year old boys think that Pixar movies are uncool -- that they are kiddie -- and thus stay away from them.  Just my experience. In essence, Pixar movies capture the child and adult markets, skipping the 16-25 year old male bracket almost completely. I think the Wii is doing something similar.

PS3 is for everyone? If I had one there is no way I would let a kid near it. I don't want their sticky lollipop finger prints on it.

Younger audiences? Like... 14 years old or something like that?

Haha just kidding
