(As always if any of my numbers are wrong please tell me and I will fix them)

Metriod has been getting blasted for not having online mulit-player but if you look at Nintendo they are not going for it. Even on the PS2 they sold more than anybody but still have very few online titles. MICROSOFT NEEDS XBOX LIVE TO SURVIVE, when is everyone going to realize that. That is why every Xbox game will have it. Example: Super Smash Bros Brawl and Halo are both coming out with the third game in their series, if at E3 Smash Bros was said to have no online would it kill the sales NO! but would it make some people upset yes, and sure they may lose A FEW sales. Now, if Halo 3 came out with no online............. it would kill the series online is what sales Halo and the Xbox. Now with that what's the big deal with online, sure it's cool but does anybody have friends that can come over? I don't understand why a game is horrible because it doesn't have online, it's great to have, but is it really that bad not to have?

First, GC, PS2 and Wii have/had next to no online.
The Xbox (while not the first) really start the thing and you can see the evolution with the X360. Once you taste it... And you're not even talking about the PC...

Second, you have to understand online is a natural extension of Multiplayer games via link or split screens.
See Smash Bros ? Mario Kart ? PGR ? Pokemon Colosseum ? NFS ? MOH ? Wii sport ? Reed Steel ? Rayman ? GT ?
It's all online potential. It's all games many players wish to play together, and will.

Try to compare the situation in 1 year. You'll see the difference.

Online is big deal for Xbox (and 360) owners, because they are a bunch of geeks, who don't have friends IRL. :D

But seriously, M$ have been trying to beat Sony and Nintendo with its online, still no success, according to sales numbers, while Nintedo is the opposite, it looks like they try to avoid online as long as possible.
Need for online depends on a game. For some games it's useless, while some games practically require it.

Personally, i'm happy for Corruption not to have online, but the Pokemon BR in the other hand must have online.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Online is not needed in most games, I think it's just a nerdy trend to say 'It better have online play' without actually thinking about whether on not you really give a shit about it.

I have to agree here, I find online gaming in general to be a bit dull. If you don't know the people you may as well be playing against the computer, and if you do know the people.... nothing compares to actually inviting them round and playing the game. The only good thing about online gaming is slagging people off. Which is fantastic amounts of fun. Though I tend to find most people online tend not to treat playing the game as just having a bit of a laugh and take the whole thing much too seriously for it to be any fun. psn: ion-storm (i think?)

First, I'm taking about consoles not PC, and I inculded the last six systems. And that's my point PS2 having little to now online yet it sold 120 million and the Wii with little to no online has sold about 8.6 million while the 360 which is based off of online has only sold 10 million (with a full year ahead of the wii). My point is online is not selling all these games as much as you think (unless it's Halo).

Second, all the games you named (that's on the Wii) don't have online (still waiting on Smash Bros. and Mario Kart). I'm not saying online is a bad thing it's great but it doesn't make or break a game.

I completely and utterly agree with this thread.

That's how I feel, nothing is better than seeing that look on you friend's face after you hand his ass to him to in a mulit-player match.

I also having a question (from something I said in my first post).

Which would you rather have with no online play,

Halo 3 or Super Smash Bro. Brawl

Doesn't bother me either way. I played Halo 2 online twice and never went back after I found it to be very little fun.
