Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo without Mario?

Nintendo made Mario what it is , Mario doesn't make Nintendo. They've pushed and promoted the Mario brands for decades into that household name we all know and love.

But if Nintendo was to loose Mario it would be a significant short term loss but they'd re-evaluate and push another brand maybe Zelda like kaz suggested or something totaly new.

If you take the Nintendo goggles off you'd realise the Mario the success of the mario brand isn't it's depth but it's penetration.

This is like saying "What if videogames had never been invented"

Bingo..............except video games would still exist on PC.............but the home console market would have ceased to exist after the video game crash.

Luigi would no longer be overshadow.....

...is not Nintendo.

Honestly ... I'm pretty sure that if Nintendo didn't focus on Mario another series (Donkey Kong, Punch Out, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Starfox, F-Zero, Earthbound, Famicon Wars, or Fire Emblem) would have been pushed to the forefront of Nintendo and thrived in the spotlight.

I'm kinda confused. Is the query Nintendo no longer producing Mario Franchise, or yes to Mushroom Kingdom but no more Mario, or Hypothetically speaking if Mario never existed. If the last question is yes, then do we assume that is the Mario Segali of Mario Bros. 1983. Or the charachter Origin called Jumpman in Donkey Kong in 1981. Would then Donkey Kong be a valid charachter as well.
