For some reason the way I see, the only company that will have a 8th gen console on market in 2012 is MS.... call me crazy but I think that PS3 and Wii are gonna be around for a while.....

Last year everyone said that the PS3 will never outsell the 360...

The majority of optimistic predictions I have heard for the XBox 360 have it maintaining 2nd place in English speaking countries and not losing by that much to the PS3 ... There have been far more posts by far more people that expected the Wii to not pass the Gamecube's sales worldwide than there have been people that expected the XBox 360 to retain a worldwide lead over the PS3.

lol all i read about 2006 and most of 2007 was how the ps3 would struggle to reach 10 millions.

I'm sorry, but that's the Wii you're talking about.

We posters from the future are laughing at the Wii fans who think the Wii outnumbers the mighty PS3 in our future time. Wii users cannot even use the new time-dilation app us PS3 owners can utilize to heckle Wii owners of the past.

The Cell has spoken through time itself. Silence, Wii fans!

Admittedly, were I part of your timeline, err.. in sync with your timeline, I would still not go predicting the PS3 was going to trounce the Wii anytime soon.

Although... the Wii certainly has the biggest potential for an upgrade in the near future, so its not inconcievable that its numbers are reduced by an improved, DVD-capable, much accelerated HD-version of itself -- the PS3 does have a much longer lifespan, potentially... I mean I know it does, since I'm from the future.

As much as I don't think the PS3 will beat the Wii I also think people are incorrectly putting previous generation trends on the PS3 lifetime graph. I really think that the initial launch was more of a preview launch and that if they play their cards right, Sony can have a mass market launch later on. The peak will then come 2-3 years after this point (I'm guessing Christmas 2010.) Sony's name and the extra technology behind the system will keep it from feeling stale for those adopters of the mass market launch.

Preview launch?...Mass market launch?...!!!!!!!!

Last time I checked the PS3 was available in the majority of the developed world.

It hurts my head to even contemplate what on earth you are trying to excrete on these forums.

I think he's trying to say that once the PS3 get's down to $200.00, it will be like relaunching the console for the mass market.

Problem is getting down to $200.00 is far harder than he thinks and he fails to consider the other consoles potential for price cuts as well.

Yes, and sorry for the confusion. I definitely consider the other consoles' potential for price drops. The Wii will be $100-150 and still/again out of stock in most areas. The 360 will be $100 and selling okay. My point is the PS3 will still be approaching its peak (the Wii might be as well). None of the other consoles have had this much potential for price drops and so they haven't had the ability to stretch their ramp-up time (The Wii might be ramping still because it defies all trends.)

Why is that funny? Remember "teh graffix doesn't matter, its teh game play, taht is why Wii will last 10 years, lolololz"?  Seriously the PS3 has a better chance of out lasting the Wii, the "graphics card" (no pun intended) will come into play again whether ninty fans like it or not.

OMG. Worst. Reasoning. Evar...

Lol firstly the periods are not needed. Worst. Reasoning. Evar... ? what does " Reasoning." mean, it's not a full sentence. Also ever is ever not evar. Your "Evar" isn't even slang because the slang version of "ever" is "eva."

It just doesn't make any sense to say that the PS3 will win this gen. In fact, I'll be surprised if they even manage to get 2nd place.

Let's face the facts: The PS3 has not the be all end all of gaming, as sales have shown, they're still hurting for decent sized stable of exclusives, and the price is still way too high for anyone but the most loyal Sony fan.

The 360 is about to become $200, that's going to have a huge impact given their list of games. The 360's biggest enemy is not the PS3 or even the Wii--the 360's biggest enemy is itself (reliability).

PS3 is not even a blip on Nintendo's radar at this point.  The target demographic isn't even close to being the same.

This whole 10 year lifecycle thing sounds a bit crazy when you consider that the PS3's main attraction is graphics ...something it was obsolete at right out of the box (compared to PC) on launch day.  Given that 360 and PS3 fanboys never shut the f*** up about Wii graphics capability you guys don't get to skirt around this issue when you bring up the 10 year lifecycle.  At least the Wii has something to fall back on. It's a fact, and it's going to become more apparent when the next generation is released, or the next big PC tech jump happens.

Even though Blu Ray won a format war against HDDVD doesn't mean it's going to become the standard. One of the biggest gripes from movie and game companies is reselling of used games--cutting into profit.  Direct download could possibly be the standard for next gen gaming. They already have 32 gig SD cards, memory is becoming cheaper by the day--or maybe it'll be like Steam where you buy it and own it forever as an account.

Yes there's a lot of flaming and people laughing, but I imagine it has something to do with getting a front row seat to the 2 articles at the top of my post.
