ive used psn since i got my ps3 its superb and easy to use. all the games i play onlne like cod4 burnout and gta4 play perfectly. i see no reason 2 pay 39.99 a year to play them same games over live.

once the free home network is out i cant see the point in live.

live has a couple more functions than psn, and some p2p games like vegas2 seem more stable over live than psn. but even so i still play vegas2 get into games etc on psn.

If you want to be honest, XBL's structure yields one big benefit over PSN's. Small companies can include online features and modes to their games because Microsoft is footing the server bill where on PSN the small companies could not afford to do it and sony does not provide it.

In the end XBL has a lot more online games by far most of the downloadable games have online modes where PSN games and PS3 games by and large are limited on their online modes. It's all up to preference personally I play Smash bros online more often than anything on PSN or 360. I won't pay to play and I dislike shooters...

XBL used to be better, but PSN passed them once it updated the store and got in-game xmb.

Some people claim to enjoy Grand Theft Auto 4's online play.

PS3 is better you get what you pay for.

well i respect your opinion, but a machine thats been out for nearly 16months longer than ps3, obviously its going to have more online games, but that doesnt make live better.

i agree live has some features that are better than psn, but the fact remains that i can play all my online enabled games perfectly for free. psn being free is by far and larger reason of it being better.

i stick with my opinion in when home is released, theres no point in live. the features in home are better than anything on 360 live can offer.

but you are right in saying its a preference

i like the games on PSN better than XBL

I've never used XBL so I can't say the PSN is better. I do enjoy the games on PSN, the online play is lag free, I like the fact that fewer people have mics, dedicated servers provide much larger online games, download speeds are good, friends support is good, trophies are a good improvement, and the Store has good content.

The thing I don't understand about XBL is why you have to pay $50 a year for peer to peer online games and friend support. Don't the free/silver users get everything else?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

IMO, the only thing that XBL has that PSN doesn't is the Gamer Score..but that could go away soon with trophies :)

wow i didnt think this thread would last this long lol.

They are both the same XBL has more content but its old games remade.

PSN BY FAR has newer games (tekken 5 ONLINE!!!!!) which 3 or 4 of them are so much better then mostly all games on XBL.

Also sonys is free.

My verdict is PSN only because its free and has better games.

Custom sound tracks are not a part of "xbox live" its a standard in the system. So i dont no why people are using that to justify paying 50 bucks for the same service you can get for free.

As someone who has no life from playing online fps's, both services have their ups and downs.

PSN- pros
uses dedicated servers more often than not (less lag, no host advantage)
it's free
smooth and organized interface
nicer community (more europeans)
original psn titles

cons-
smaller network
not enough of my friends have a PS3 (I'm in the U.S.)
Not enough content
lack of cross-game voice chats and invites

Xbox Live-pros
huge community
broad selection of games with more good and bad games compared to the psn
gives amateur game devs a place to reach an audience
more features
more profile customization
Easier to find your friends in the U.S.

cons-
clunky interface with too many menus to go through
often lags and has host changes
it's 50$ bucks a year
uses "microsoft points"

The deciding factor that outweighs everything and deals with the very root of online gaming is the server stability or inversely the instability. If I have to worry about that, then it directly takes away from the fun. Try sniping in halo when your opponents are skipping around the map at a frame a second. Not going to happen. Often times I'll randomly die and cease to re-spawn for a good minute or two. If I had a choice as to where the 50$ a month went it would be towards dedicated servers. Frankly I don't feel it's necessary for microsoft to charge to keep the service running. I'm almost sure that it's strictly for the sake of profit and they're laughing at the fact that they can get away with it but whatever- I just want to play Halo. As soon as Resistance 2 comes out I won't have to pay anyone.
