Forums - Gaming Discussion - GameStop Diaries:Gave 360 a chance.... Pt.1

Ok so I let a good friend talk me into checking out a game from gamestop.  The only problem is we cannot decide on a game that we both can enjoy. I own a PS3 and he a 360. I would have much rathered to get something for my console (seeing as I am the one with the hook up) but he insisted that I check out a game on 360 from Gamestop. I finally give in after hrs of hounding and allow him to get a game for 360 this ONE time. He goes and finds a game, luck would have it he would want me to borrow a new game. Now Gamestop allows employees to borrow new games but they must come back in PERFECT condition. So I check it out, all is well.

Me and the same friend come back the nxt day or so, returning the game to the store as he was not that enthused with it. I place it on the counter for my boss to check the game back in the store. While loligagging with my associates for a moment my boss calls me over. Apparently the new game that I had borrowed had come back with a few gashes. Not nearly enough to be in operable, yet enough that the game could no longer be classified as "New". This in turn meant that I had to PURCHASE this game FOR A SYSTEM THAT I DONT EVEN HAVE!

You see, I dont blame my friend, I am the one who let him talk me into it. I more so blame the suckbox...oops....I mean xbox 360. I was there the whole time with my friend while it was in his possesion. He did not miss treat it in any way. He stayed in his 360,flat on the ground, for the entire period till we returned it. And to top it off he had only played it I would say for a total of 6 hrs.

Just one more reason why I dont like MS's machine.....

Well that's good at least. Dude I'd heard 360s break games when they fall while standing up, but this is just ridiculous.

Another reason to be a ps3 owner :)

Well I thank you for your story as now I have more info to pass along to people so they won't shop at gamestop. The very idea of the store passing open box items off as new is completely unacceptable.

O that is NO RUMOR! that is pure truth. Me working at Gamestop, I have seen quite a few 360 games come back completely destroyed that way. I can always tell because it makes a very distinct, perfect ring around the back of the disk. I think I saw some Halo come back that way the day after release. I sometimes jokingly tell my friend that I would turn their 360 over while it is playing something hahahahha. Its not so funny to me now that it has sorta happened to me (well not really as my friend's 360 NEVER MOVED!).

Only time this is allowed is when their are no more used ones left. It is encouraged that we stay aware of what top games are like.  If you did not already know, none of the games in GStop are in their cases on the walls and for display. If we get, say 4 halo,  We leave 3 of them sealed and "gut" one to be displayed. That "one" is only to be sold if it is our last one. With previous gen systems u could put in a game without it being destroyed. PS3  is perfect in these situations seeing as bluRay does not blemish easily (seriously, try scratching one, u WILL be AMAZED).

Flamebait thread? Anyways, the 360 is notorious for scratching cd's while moving the console. A friend of mine who got her 360 from her brother and a few games had me connect it (she doesn't know much) so while I connected it and saw all the games he had given her - Sonic the Hedgehog, Cars and another game (forgot which one) - all of them had like a ring around it, it had that weird deep scratch look to it. In all of gaming with CDs, I have never seen anything like it and the only game that worked was Cars. I'm not saying that her brother didn't move the 360 or not, I'm just saying that that was ridiculous. While running a game that didn't work, I moved the 360 slowly from vertical to horizontal and it sounded horrible. Bad hardware design. Although if u said that he didn't move it, I wouldn't think it would get scratched up like that.

I know you were trying to help out your friend but GS policy allows employees to borrow for the employee's use ONLY.

SnakeEyez, that was a bad idea. The orientation of the console is to be established before putting in a disc and not changed when in use.  It is all over the manuals and stuff.
