Forums - Sony Discussion - Why will final fantasy XIII multiplatform make people sell their PS3's?

ask leo-j? :P

Edit: I posted this before Soriku!

Though it kind of sucks that I sold my 360 for FFXIII (also RROD), I won't sell my PS3 and get a 360 again because I just want to play it.

Also, this is a little off topic, but I can't be bothered posting it in the 10 threads of PS3 fanboy panic about FFXIII being on 360:

1) Stop talking up Versus, you've only watched a trailer and no nothing about the game, it could be crap for all we know (considering sony's troubles at spin off titles)

2) Don't play down the importance of FFXIII. It's big, Sony was stupid enough to lose it, get over it.

3) Lead platform is the PS3, therefore, best version will be the PS3's, just as 95% of 360 lead platform games are definitively better on the 360.

First let me say I am not trolling. Any time anyone asks this question they are automatically marked as trolling, but it is a damned legitimate question. That never seems to get the legitimate response it deserves.

Why did someone last year decide to purchase a PS3. The console that by far cost the most money. The console that has an anemic launch lineup. The console that had a terrible launch year library. While the other two consoles were cheaper, and had better lineups. Even the hardware was a crap shoot. Nobody knew if the new format would actually fly. Hell the console was a massive gamble.

The answer to that question comes in two parts. The first part is that a consumer bought into the name brand recognition. The second part is that they bought the console for the potential promise of less then a handful of games. Nobody said the reasoning was sound. The reasoning was most assuredly not sound. To pretend it was logical is far fetched.

Time and again last year the conversation rotated around two things the brand name meant something, and these three or four games, are games someone had to have. Among those games were Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto, and GT. Despite all proof to the contrary there was even an expectation that suddenly the PS3 would suddenly develop a fantastic library far beyond the competition.

Well the brand name recognition hasn't necessarily brought success, or spun forth a PS2 level library. Most of the must have titles are also to be found on the 360, and the 360 still has a far more substantial library. This is not likely to change. I suspect that a great many of these lash outs are actually pent up rage and self loathing.

Many of these posters going off the band wagon were upset with their console choice long before this announcement. For them this development might have been the last excuse they were clinging to. I think this title going to the 360 also was a combination of the last straw and the perfect excuse. They can now allow themselves to be mad at Sony, and since they are mad they now have a justification to do what they have secretly longed to do, but perhaps were too proud to confess.

They have somewhat of a point when they are mad at Sony they are just not telling the entire story. They are not just mad about Sony losing this exclusive it goes far deeper that that they have been mad about the gaming drought, getting shafted on the price front, the library being unbalanced, Sony not buying games for the console, and so forth.

Will some of these posters change their mind tomorrow well probably. I wouldn't accuse all of them of being well balanced, or at least rationally thinking things through. However there is probably a good number of them that are sincere about their decision. I wouldn't necessarily call it stupid either. Standing with a product that isn't meeting your expectations, and wasn't likely to meet your needs in the first place is stupid. Realizing your error, and correcting it no matter how late in a generation is always a smart move.

I think it is safe to say a person who was already satisfied with their PS3 probably wouldn't have gone off the rails the way some did today. Those who did probably had some festering problems, and resentments against Sony. Which even if they turn the other cheek tomorrow just means they will simmer that much longer.

Hell were the PS3 to get Halo 3, Mass Effect, Crackdown, or any other number of 360 titles I wouldn't go off the rails. The PS3 getting Bioshock doesn't phase me none. By the way PS3 owners buy that game it is wonderful. Those things do not phase me, because I am content with my console. I absolutely have what I want in my 360.

I've read literally about ten people claiming to be selling their PS3's and buying a 360 because of this announcement, to me this is just pants on head retarded. It's still coming out on PS3, so it really doesn't make any difference if you have already got a ps3. I know that people who were undecided, or multiconsole owners may be swayed away from ps3, but if you read my post, you'll see that this is not the situation to which I am referring

i know, its because they are stupid idiots.

the game is still coming out on ps3 on one single bluray. in fact the japanese game will be completed first and released first.

360 version isnt even started yet. i see no reason whatsoever to buy 360 version over ps3 version.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I already canceled my FFXIII pre order. And my sister's. And my dog's. Sold my PS3 too. Threw out all my Blu Ray movies.

actually, i'm pissed of as hell at sony to the extent of wanting to sell my ps3. BUt first, just to clariffy things, i'm not angry at FFXIII going multiplat, i'm actually glad that more people will be able to enjoy this game.  What pisses me off is the fact that I chose to pay extra cash for a PS3 believing that FFXIII will ONLY be available on that console, then here comes M$ with the announcement that FFXIII will be releasing on the XBOX360. WTF?! i spent more money on a PS3 in preparation to play this game plus sacrificing the other JRPGS which will be going to the XBOX360 just for FFXIII!

If i'd know that FFXIII would be going multiplat, I'd have bought an XBOX360 instead which would have saved me a 100 bucks or so.

Because they are angry at Sony, and with the startle that they had, the think it is the best way to punish Sony for its mistake, not understanding that it had nothing to do with them.

In all honesty, I think FF XIII was a symbol to those who faithfully devote themselves to the Playstation Brand. It isn't just that the game was exclusive; it's that it's been apparent for a long time now that porting this game to the 360 would ease the financial burden this mammoth game is clearly causing Square Enix. What kept it exclusive? We couldn't really tell -- Square Enix's fear that they would upset their fans, or uncertain relations with Microsoft, maybe.

Whatever the reason, Final Fantasy was a game that seemed to almost magically remain exclusive, despite financial reason or economic sense to say otherwise. It implies a sort of grandeur about the Playstation Brand; even in times when the brand isn't shining its brightest, the major titles stay on because of history, because of a loyal fanbase, because this.is.Playstation.

I think there have been many chips in the armor, but to me, this is the knock out blow: not to the Playstation brand (far from it), but to the notion that the Playstation brand is somehow chosen or blessed, that it can acquire third party exclusives simply by existing. Like the Xbox 360, the PS3 is a mortal console, and it will need to prove itself to acquire the games it desires.

if you really want a jrpg fix, get a ds or to a lesser extent, a psp.  they have more and in many cases better jrpgs than the consoles.  if you just cared about FF, why get the ps3 now?  you could have gotten it next year, for less money, and probably gotten a slim version to boot.

they are trying to prove themselves to aquire games, unfortuately with the disasterous start they had, they need to buy games now (take a page from microsofts book) and then you can use the muslce like in the ps1/2 days of, we have the big install base, you need to be here mentallity.
