Forums - Sales Discussion - I believe that one of the "HD twins" are going to crash and burn in sales

@misterd

Nice name btw >.>

anyway Wrong - it depends on the consumers now and not the technologists and investors - investors are listening to consumers not technologists, I believe this time through most of them realize that game developers don't give them money, they give them product - consumers give them money.

This will probably turn into the interface cycle, where each system begins to compete or copy one another's method of interface. In otherwords a shift from graphical immersiveness to method of play.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Both consoles are redundant and are being marketed to the same shrinking audience, so a crash in one of them is coming.

Where are you getting "shrinking" from? The market is growing, as proven by the fact that for the first time it's supporting 3 successful consoles.

I don't think it will be that soon, but I agree that we should see some slowing down for them - there is no way the market will go on for another 5 years of 360/PS3 sales as they are.

If I had to put my money on one it would be the 360, because PS3 has classic IP's it can rely on to bring more life from the PS2 audience, while MS may run out of luck with their new IP's.

I think MS is going to attempt to steal some Wii audience, in an attempt to stay competitive with the PS3 in sales. I shall dub it Marshall's Folly and the internet shall break with the laughter of a million Nintendo fanboys.

That's not to say that the PS3 is gonna be a record-breaking console either, quite to the contrary, depending on the persepctive from which you view it, the PS3 is a much larger failure than any console to come before it, barring the obvious ones like the Virtual Boy. Under "Drop the ball" in the dictionary, there should be a large picture of the PS3, with a caption of a a Harrison quote, "The touch screen is a gimmick."

The touch screen is about as needed on the ds as it is on a phone. The ps3 is far more of a success than "virtual boy"

Also seen from the perspective of the ps3 as a lone unit it's one of the most successful consoles of all times. It has attained high sales even though it's extreamly expencive.

It pulled through when everyone thought it was gonna fail.

At last.. once it falls in price we have few gusts as to the effect.

So do I. Just because the casual market is growing doesn't mean the hardcore market is shrinking. The Wii is converting non-gamers, not core gamers.

Sorry, but that can't be (entirely) true.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/30356/Core-gamer-market-is-saturated

The very short version is, if you exclude Nintendo from the equation, the entire gaming market (hardware and software) shrank by 7% last year.  That leaves you with two possible conclusions: Either the Wii is converting established gamers, or the "core" gaming market is on the brink of disaster (especially when you combine it with the fact that development costs are spiralling out of control).

Super World Cup Fighter II: Championship 2010 Edition

Well if anything the ps3 can be marketed as a media/blue-ray player, and assuming BR is going to really catch on it could make a killing just on that. If one had to go I would think it to be the 360, I think it appeals to a smaller crowd worldwide and carries a bad reputation. But seeing as how much gaming has grown there may be enought room for both. The more the merrier.

none will crash and burn, but i have a feeling 360's sales will drop next year from this year

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

@kenny, um just because the wii mainly caters to new casual gamers, it can not have core gamers? the industry is growing, true costs are up. the big thing that needs to happen though for games is more tie ins to distribue costs much like movies. toys, and such. halo series is a good example books, toys, in the end meals and soda. the other thing that needs help is turn around time, or rather better control of expected release date vs actual, if they keep it under wraps till 6 months out at most it should help the image of the industry for uneasy new investors. though i will say mgs4 turned the wait into a gain with the super front heavy sales.

PS3 will sell over 100 mln.

Why anyone wouldn`t buy 199$ costing PS3 and ignore GT5, FFXIII, FFXIIIv, FFXIV, GoW3, KZ2, Team Ico game, MGS4, LBP and other GREAT games with will come during 2010-2014.

As for now, on x360 i would like to try Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia(but i`m 95% sure it will be released on ps3), Halo Wars(80% of pc version), Fable 2 (75% on PC), Ace Combat 6(but if there will be an PS3 version of AC7, then i can live without AC6).
also wouldn`t mind to play Dead Rising, maybe Kameo with Banjo3.
Probably Cry On, if it will be good one.
That`s all.

After 2,5 year, there is not much games on x360, which would interest me atleast, can`t say for everyone, BUT i don`t see GREAT exclusives on x360. Moreover, most titles that i mentioned, are more average games. which i would like to try,m then a GREAT ones.

PS3 is in advantage, it has FREE online, REAL EXCLUSIVES and blu-ray player.

That`s why PS3 at 199$ will be MEGA popular, while x360 won`t be.

p.s. PC will be always gaiming platform, because of games like StarCraft2, Diablo 3, Witcher, Company of Heroes and etc.
Of`course, maybe some GOOD games like Mass Effect, GeoW, Fable2 come later on PC, BUT REAL gamer wouldn`t really care to wait half a year or a year, since a REAL gamer is always busy with some games and he is not some casual gamer, which play only popular games and when they are released, and don`t play 1-2 years old games, because they were released in past.

FF XIV? wat?

@Gearbox

MS never said they weren't making another Xbox >_> In fact, they said they'd like to be first on the market next gen.

Also, lol at Wii losing this gen. Oh, and this gen isn't going to last 10 years >_>

Ya, i would not be shocked if there is a FF 14 by the end of the generation since this generation still has another 8 - 9 years left.

And M$ has confirmed another system in pre-production (R&D) a while back when the 360 was launched. They said "they are always looking ahead" or something like that.
