Almost all ps3 and 360 games are upscaled from a lower resolution.

Why anyone wouldn`t buy 199$ costing PS3 and ignore GT5, FFXIII, FFXIIIv, FFXIV, GoW3, KZ2, Team Ico game, MGS4, LBP and other GREAT games with will come during 2010-2014.

As for now, on x360 i would like to try Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia(but i`m 95% sure it will be released on ps3), Halo Wars(80% of pc version), Fable 2 (75% on PC), Ace Combat 6(but if there will be an PS3 version of AC7, then i can live without AC6).
also wouldn`t mind to play Dead Rising, maybe Kameo with Banjo3.
Probably Cry On, if it will be good one.

After 2,5 year, there is not much games on x360, which would interest me atleast, can`t say for everyone, BUT i don`t see GREAT exclusives on x360. Moreover, most titles that i mentioned, are more average games. which i would like to try,m then a GREAT ones.

PS3 is in advantage, it has FREE online, REAL EXCLUSIVES and blu-ray player.

That`s why PS3 at 199$ will be MEGA popular, while x360 won`t be.

p.s. PC will be always gaiming platform, because of games like StarCraft2, Diablo 3, Witcher, Company of Heroes and etc.
Of`course, maybe some GOOD games like Mass Effect, GeoW, Fable2 come later on PC, BUT REAL gamer wouldn`t really care to wait half a year or a year, since a REAL gamer is always busy with some games and he is not some casual gamer, which play only popular games and when they are released, and don`t play 1-2 years old games, because they were released in past.

I do agree with OP's idea, but I'm skeptical when. I think sales will take a turn once the fans that already own the system they want die off.

If Microsoft tries to out Wii the Wii, then they will drop, however, if not, it will be Sony. This is becuase Sony's system is harder to develope for, so many 3rd parties games will come at a slower rate and with so many dry times the PS3 will not be able to stay afloat.

Inconsequential if 360 drops in sales. I agree it is more likely but they aren't losing money any more. If they sell another 2 million the next 3 years they still would have profit where Sony sees losses for the next 3 years. Not to mention huge software sales on Xbox and Xbox 360.

I don't think it will drop though... why? Because even when X720 comes out MS won't make the same mistakes this time. It won't be the huge investment that 360 was. Minor improvements in graphics, full bw compatibility, big hdd, fast wifi built in, who knows what else. If they learn their lessons. Nintendo taught a lesson this gen, not motion control (god I hope not) but that improvements don't have to be graphical.

This is a complete change from my previous opinion that MS wouldn't make it to another gen. I still think PS3 will have a 8-10 life; not because it is so wonderful but because Sony needs it to have a log life.

Games have very little to do with hardware sales. Systems need the 2-3 games that sell it to the general public. 360 is defined by Halo/Gears. PS3 by FFXIII/MGS4, Nintendo by WiiSports/Mario. To the general public.

If they make the same mistakes as they did up till now or if Newton is real, then they deserve to fail.

@farmland - Almost all 360 and PS3 games are 720p native. A few PS3 games are available as 1080P native.

deeds, have you ever looked in a store before, seen howmany similer products are on the shelves to suite just a group of people, not the majority.


both consoles will do fine, we know the 360 even with price cut is turning a profit, and the ps3 should be turrning one by this time next year, software volume is up over last gen, yes dev time and costs are up but the inital sink cost is always high, once yu have asset libraries you turnout games quicker.

the big danger this gen is basicaly over wii first and in a new market, 360 and ps3 continue traditional gaming, they will try and tap each others makets, but outside of a horrible blunder... like a game that causes the console to explode or massive price dffrence over 150 dollars for premium systems of both. the market can support them.

honestly i could see our market even supporting a 4th home console maybe its time for sega to renter or godforbid an ea console .... that could upset the balance

here is nothing keeping people from putting hd (1080p) content on dvds, more the problem right now is making it pulled in a manner that does not choak avalible ram and prosseing power, thats why even ps3 games are upscaled.

as the gen moves on and people get better at coding for each piece of hardware, you will see both push out native 1080p

there are also 1080p native dvd movies though the selection is limited mainly art films and short films.

but if you are talking about blue ray movies, then yes, ps3 is the only place to get blue ray movies.

If either the 360 or Ps3 dies, HD gaming dies, the majority of HD games can only turn a profit by being put on both consoles.

Even then, its the appeal of being able to put your game on two consoles that makes HD development so appealing. If you have just one HD console vs the Wii, the Wii will dominate even more.

The 360 and PS3 are not only redundant, but dependent on eachother.
