Forums - General Discussion - How will homosexuality will affect us in the future,Are you happy about it?

I knew I was going to get quoted... O well... I guess since I haven't evolved past the wheel, I shouldn't post on more "enlightened" topics...

Born gay, means BORN GAY. Every person I have ever know that is gay has always maintained that they ALWAYS like the same sex. Same for heterosexuals. Whenever the average age is when you start noticing your feelings of affection to someone, that is when you realize you are either looking at bill or gill in a loving way.

So would that mean the a toddler "homosexual" would respond to images of a nude mad in the same way a "hetrosexual todller" would respond to images of nude women , if our sexual preferences are innate in this way then it would stand to reason that the response would be the same. Would that also mean that it would be impossible for a once hetrosexual man to become homosexual or a once homosexual man to become hetrosexual permanently ?

Would it be a mental illness for a baby born homosexual to like ladies and not men in adulthood ?

I'm not arguing against you , i'm trying to further my understanding.

Every person is different. I was attracted to girls by the age of 4/5. My male cousin was the same....for boys.

However, I have met plent of people who are not gay who had no interest in the opposite sex until much later. I would assume that this is the same for homosexuals. Though since they are by far the minority of the populace, I have only actually known a handful.

I know from my own children and nephews/neices that they started being aware of attraction to someone else as early as 3 yrs.  I have one nephew whom I am absolutely sure he is going to be bi-sexual. Even though he currently has no concept of the difference between heterosexuals and homosexuals. I can just tell he is attracted to both, men and women.

My 5 year old son has 'loved' my best friend's daughter since he was 4. He makes pictures of her and at my friends re-marriage, he danced with her all night. He even made her a Mii. lol.

To me, everything about you is coded in your genes. Even your tastes, sex included. Granted those tastes can have minor transitions through time, i.e. I have always disliked pickles and mustard, however, within the last few years I have become to enjoy mustard on my food. Now, I personally think that is because I never special order food and have been eating mustard occasionally for so long I just got used to it.

Gay men have more hormones developed that are usually only predominate in women. Same goes for gay women and male hormones. Why is that? Did they will their body to produce these? Or did their DNA and genes define that and thus their 'gayness'.

We are only machines, regardless of how complex we are, we are defined by the code that makes us. It is purely logical that in the extreme complexity and known randomness that exists in our species there will be those that are abnormal. i.e. not among the great majority, thus, by definition, abnormal. Homosexuality is just part of the very broad spectrum of abnormal human behaviour. Granted, it is not abnormal in a bad or needing to be corrected way, just an extreme.

Albinos, homosexuals, webbed feet, hairlips, etc are all forms of abnormal conditions that are just part of our species. The sooner we as a society accept that and ensure everyone has the same god-given rights, the sooner Earth will be a better place for all.

I hope that gives a crystal clear view on my opinion of the matter.

I don't think that was his point. You're entitled to your opinion as well as the rest of us.

It is funny though that the "conservatives" of the world resist all types of change, even the beneficial kind. See: Galileo. The guy was a heretic according to the catholic church.

Granted, gay people have nothing to do with furthering our understanding of the universe around us, but it's the idea that counts. Something interesting, I work with a guy who was born in China, and doesn't understand why the US is so tolerant of gay people. He thinks that if little kids see gay people and gay things in the media, that they'll turn gay and our society won't be able to reproduce itself. No joke.

I simply fail to understand this line of thinking.

Well homosexuality is becoming increasingly accepted , where people were once afraid/too ashamed to admit anything other than hetrosexualness it's now more common to see these kinds of things.

My question is how will this ultimatley affect us , how much will it do so , will it at all ? And how do you feel about it ?.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as isn't offensive.

I'm gay and am very glad to live in these times because gay people have been treated pretty rottenly throughout history. I don't think increasing acceptance of homosexuality will have much affect on society at all.. Straight people will still go about their lives knowing that gay people are pretty much the same as them except for the part about loving people of their own gender.

For me, increasing acceptance is a wonderful thing... I should have the same rights as everyone else. In most states gay people can be fired only for their sexual orientation. Gays can only get married in Massachusetts and now California. Its normal for some to be uncomfortable with something they aren't used to but with these gay issues coming out in the forefront of national debate and especially more gay people coming out.. I think people will learn that we are pretty normal.

has it ever been conclusively proven that people can be born gay? I mean it defies logic to me because such individuals would be unable to reproduce and any "gay gene" would be eliminated from the genome fairly quickly imo.

If the answer to above question is "yes, there is a gay gene." I don't really care, but regardless, I will physically harm any guy who starts hitting on me. *shudder*

If the answer is "no, there is not a gay gene." I will avoid them. If they start hitting on me, well, prepare for Judgment Day....

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

I detest the "gay" term in general; anything associated to it, but I consider people, people.

Also: I view it as plain unnatural.

In the long run?

People will likely be happier.

As it is... people get overly disgusted by things such as gays kissing and the like because they themselves have closet issues and attractions... (somtimes even on minute levels that wouldn't be acted on if they were more open.)

Most people do have a little bit of "gay" in them even though they would never even when being completely hoenst with themselves go all bi or anything.

Think about it this way. For a lot of people... if searching the internet if a guy see's a stray picture of a penis it's a common reaction to look away in disgust. Yet that same guy an hour later could spend a good 30+ minutes looking at a penis in a porn movie. The penis with no context disgusts them? Why? They're a little dishonest with themselves.

All that would happen for straight people is basically... they'd just be a little more at ease and have less stress because they wouldn't have to "worry" about being secretly gay if they could decide who was a good looking man independent of what they've heard.

Me. I don't want to have sex with any guys. I could still rate guys on an attractiveness scale though. Most peopel could if they were honest with themselves. (Patrick Stewart number 1 by the way.)

Over 90% of the people on the earth could do this about the same sex if honest with themselves... and those that actually have near zero attraction to people of the same sex? Those are the people who looking at two gay people kiss have exactly no effect... no disgust, just... nothing.

Can someone explain to me why would anyone choose to be gay?

The truth is that the acceptance of homosexuality is part of a larger movement to break down all of the social norms that where (in a large part) responsible for the survival of the society we live in. The scary part to me is that we don't really know what the consequences of these changes will be.
