This doent mean that the wii wont sell 100 million because it will, but I dont think it deserves to beat the ps2(YET)

 

Sorry to disapoint you buddy, but the Wii is well on it's way to overtaking the PS2, and the PS3 will nver catch up. HA!

I think that it's going to be pretty close actually. 100 million sytems is a lot.

@ OP Why does it matter to you who sells more?

Atari's not the most in sales anymore?

What the Sony hardcore fans should really be concerned about is this:

Will the Wii beat the DS? Currently it is running about 40% better for the same number of weeks sales. And as you can see, the DS is running much stronger than the PS2 was, again, for the same number of weeks sales.

The Wii (and DS) has just brought in too many outside of the core gaming crowd. Younger, older, female. And there are just too many of them still 'available' to buy a Wii (or DS) compared to again the number of core ( ~teenage to 30ish Male), while sizable, still pale next the number outside of that group.

FF, KH, EyeToy and even GTA showed (or should have shown) Sony that there was a market outside of the core market, but at best, Sony was thinking they could pick that up at their leisure when the price of their console came down.

Hardcore games for PS3/X360 won't be too much affected. Not the better games, that is. It's the next generation that will be more affected.

Let's see, if Sony takes 2 PS3's and duct tapes them together to sell for $250 in 2011...

PS2 started only in Japan for about 7 months. If you instead align launches by region it paints a different story.

Wii is outpacing PS2 but not by so much.

About 500K in Japan

About 2 Million in America

and About 1 Million in Europe.

For a grand total of about 3.5 Million.  Considering both were supply strained it's hard to figure out.  Though since most places in America are still supply constrained for Wii and weren't at this point for PS2... it might be a little stronger then the numbers bear out.

It might just be about all that Sony can afford to do, as they're currently past 3 billion in losses in their gaming division

I never said that I hope the Wii doesn't pass the ps2. It just doesn't seem that likely (imo).
