Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii sales will slow down

well it will slow down after it has been on the market for about 5-6 years

Wii can very easily sell well for 4 years from its launch, so up to Xmas 2010, but its state of grace can almost as easily last 5 years, up to Xmas 2010, then it's not difficult a satisfying old age, like the PS2's one and Nintendo could make it last at least another two years.
Given that, Wii can easily sell not less than 80 millions during its whole life, if Nintendo will choose to make it very short, and up to 120, even 160 millions in the best case, it all depends, besides lifecycle, also on how big is the new market it discovered/created/reached, choose the term you prefer.

CONFIRMED!!!

"the Wii is going to run out of steam"

someday!?!

er, not anytime. I have yet to see the Wii readily available on Amazon.com on a daily basis. When the wii is readily available on the wii on a daily basis, then I will say that the market is saturated. So until then, wii demand is only climbing, and that is thanks to wii fit.

All i am saying is after xmass 2009 the Wiis sales are going to dive. i am going as fat to say that the ps3 might be able to sell on par or better then it in 2009

You can say whatever you want. But if you want anyone to listen, you have to back your statements up with proof.

That no one mentioned this yet:

The DS hit saturation after this year, after being 4 years in the market. So yes, the wii could hit that point in 2010. Yet, Consoles always go on to be sold more then handheld so you can easily place the "running out of steam" date 1 but more likely 2 years later then that.

Even using Japan as a mold for the rest of the world is risky. Japan currently has a recession going on, and as someone mentioned they buy their game + console on release.

Those 500k were 900k a few months ago.

Click weekly sales on that chart of yours and the picture it paints is a little different.

The PS2 picked up speed as time went by, the Wii doesn't seem to pick up speed in Japan...

The PS2 sold 1.5 million units through June in it's second year in Japan.

The Wii has sold 1 million units so far there...

The Japanese market is very game-oriented. As games come out, the system sells. Monster Hunter 3 will sell a lot of Wiis, and a lot of other similar games will sell the system as well. The system is accessible and people like it. Sales will take off in Japan again.

Keep in mind that the system is still experiencing more demand than supply. Especially in the USA.

The Wii had SSBB X and Mario Kart this year in Japan.

What bigger game than that do you expect to launch the sales to a new high ?

Animal Crossing

all the good hardcore exclusives are out...they can stil sell with minigames and casual games...a new cleaning game will win over the casuals.

Even with the worst graphics this gen, Wii good Wii games still look good. I don;t get why people make such a big deal about the Wii's graphics. they are not 360/PS3 but they are good. Some people here act like looking at a Wii game makes them throw up.

And I also don't think the Wii's graphical limitations will cause it to lose steam anytime this year. It's simply a popular item right now and will be for a while.
